'Safe word' when gagged

How do you achive a 'safe word' when you have gagged your partner?

There are different approaches. The last time I was in this situation my Dom gave me a bright coloured (so it would catch his eye and not be forgotten I guess) ribbon to hold with a bell on(so he'd hear it hit the floor if not looking right then) . If I let go/dropped it, everything stopped.

I never actually needed it - but it was a technique he used all the time and he trusted it as it had worked well for him.

I've heard other people use an object to drop as well - because you can't always make gestures if tied up ;)

Some people use clicking fingers, but depending on position this may be tricky and if there is background noise or spanking occurring it may not be heard.

Someone suggested shaking heads to me, but I wouldn't advise that - for the same reason you wouldn't use 'no' or 'stop' for a safe-word - it is often part of the scene/playing anyway and could be misunderstood, or worse, mistakenly ignored.

A friend went as far as having a small buzzer in her hand, if she pushed the button it went off. More one for frequent players as needs more planning ahead, but I'd imagine very reliable.

As I said though, the most common one to my knowledge is something to hold which can be dropped, or clicking/knocking gestures if appropriate tot eh scene (in regards of mobility and restraints etc)

three grunts in quick succession or some finger signals is what I use - I do not bind mouth and hands at the same time and I keep a close eye on the sub. Care is necessary at all times, they trust you with their life so it's a responsible position being on Top!

well done, you just made me facepalm for the first time on this forum

Could be worse - could be the Birdie Song

theres loads of descussion in this thread too http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/community/forums/orgasm-army/bondage/13081-whats-your-safe-word/

Thanks all for the responses - the bell rings one for us, we'll try that!

Very good thought, hate to think i'd have to learn sign language for such an occasion,am not very good at retaining language information lol

I tap WandA somewhere on his body to get him to slow down or be more gentle but we're a bit vanilla so I guess we'd need something more obvious if we were more adventurous.

Might be best to dance it if gagged.

Clapping...sounds a bit lame but it makes a loud noise

I like the bell idea though!

Actually did a search for 'safe word' before posting this thread - obviously I didn't think to put in a hyphen so it didn't find it

If anyone wants a bell on bright ribbon...Lindt rabbit could be the way to go:
