Softsheen Magic Shaving Powder.

Saw this mentioned in one of the many shaving threads and decided to pick some up. Now first things first, this is a depilatory powder not actually for shaving. It is names as such because it is an alternative to shaving and was developed a long time ago for Black men who have difficulty using a razor. It is meant to be used on your face so it is safer for sensitive parts.

I am experienced waxing and shaving so I was curious to see how this compares.

I bought the red can, extra strength, and mixed two tablespoons of powder with cold water to make a paste. While on the toilet( need to sit somewhere comfortable for 5-10 minutes with legs akimbo lol) spread this generously around balls, shaft, and ass! Set timer to 7 minutes(application takes couple minutes before starting timer) whilst waiting I reapplied to some areas as it dries out a little. After the time was up I use a damp cloth and basically just wiped all the hair away effortlessly from wherever the paste was. It did not burn any areas of intact skin, though It will burn any broken or damaged areas like spots. 24 hours later my perineum and anus are a little sensitive and irritated still.

Results are pretty incredible, I’m smoother than shaving, no prickly regrowth, and no bumps, spots. It does what it says!

Now I would t reccomend trying to use it same day as sex but definitely usable day before. Also, it stinks really bad!

I don’t think I’ll ever shave again!

I've recommend this a few times, it's great, just a pain mixing it.

I have the silver/green tin (sensitive not extra strong) - I agree it's stinky and a pain to mix but I like the results, seem to get fewer bumps and ingrown hairs. I accidentally got some on my inner labia while doing my bikini line and it was sore as hell for a day after so that quite put me off. Good for the underarms though, if you don't mind doing them one at a time and standing around with your arm up for a while!

I didn’t find it difficult to mix, just smelly.

This stuff sounds really interesting. Where do you buy it from!?

Amazon, unless Lovehoney takes the hint haha!

Ha yes, that would be better! Amazon delivery service is shocking. Thanks for the pointer anyway, will check this stuff out!

Oooo going to have a look..sounds good.

That may be a better option than Amazon!

Shaving is always a bain for both of us. Definitly going to give this a go.

I will say this, I wish LH did sell it. The feedback I have seen about the reliability of sellers online are sketchy at best, I'd imagine LH customer service would see a steady stream of buyers of this migrate here knowing how good LH is.

Update:

It has been about 72 hours now since I did my first application.

First the bad, keep this stuff off of internal tissue. I got a little bit on my anus and I do have two sore spots that still havent healed but they are on the very inside of my anus that is sort of internal most of the time but exposed when sitting or really relaxed etc (think some got caught in the skin folds). . . Not comfortable, feels like a hemmorhoid. In future I plan on puttinga thick layer of petroleum jelly on those sensitive parts so that if I do accidentally get a little there again it wont make contact. There is no hair there anyway so doesnt need to be there.

Now for the good, and I still really think it is good! I am still super smooth, by this point with a razor I would feel like sandpaper and be in agony itching. None of that, I can see hair regrowth and if I rub against it I can feel it, but its soft. In fact I feel to the hand just as smooth as a clean shave. There is absolutely no irritation anywhere except what I mentioned above.

Some good some bad, it has not deterred me, it is still soooooo much better than shaving, just need to get the application right, despite the negatives I would still reccomend it to the shavers, just be careful applying it.

I am going to experiment a little as well, try to reduce the exposure time to the bare minimum, lol.  Also, as mentioned I got the extra strength, I suspect that may be overkill, I will try the sensitive formulation next. Ill keep you all posted.

What reliability issues do you mean? not real product?

I've never heard of this magic potion...so did a quick search and found Amazon (sorry if I'mnot allowed to say that word here - but this is hell of a buy!) sell it - I found some for only 48p plus £2.46 postage (even Prime customers have to pay postage)

Hoping it arrives quickly as I hate shaving and waxing!

Some vendors it seems to take forever to post it, (don't think they have it in stock to begin with) I buy 2 tins at a time, when one runs out I put in a new order in case I have to wait for supplies.

I know there are a couple mentions where to buy already, let’s not get into prices or promoting good deals etc, I don’t want to cross over to promoting competitor retailers in this thread, it’s already skirting a fine line seeing as LH do sell products that are alternatives(shaving) to hair removal creams.

Hi KG

Thanks for mentioning this - we definitely don't want a discussion about lots of competitors with prices and deals, but I'm happy for you to carry on chatting about the product in particular as we don't sell anything like it.

Please do pop it on the pander to me thread though: if it is a safe product to use we can research and potentially stock it.

Please do take care when using any product other than for it's intended use and alway do a patch test before going near sensitive areas.

Thanks all!

Update day 6:

Im even more amazed at this stuff now. I have a good 3-4mm regrowth now. The regrowth has never been prickly or itchy, no redness or ingrown hairs. Even now the hairs are soft and almost unnoticeable, I still feel very smooth to the bare hand. The initial irritation from miss-application cleared up after about 4 days and now I am back to 100%.

Im pretty much ready for re-application but am planning on waiting until friday to give it just over a week.

I have always hated shaving, have used products like nair in the past and not been impressed, I honestly didnt know what to expect from this stuff but I have been very happy with it so far.

On the in-grown hair front, I do exfoliate daily, Lush make a soap called sandstone that has natural fine sand in it. I find it perfect for exfoliation of the sensitive areas, its just abrasive enough to do the job without scratching or rubbing anything raw.

Sorry Guys - I'm not very practised at this forum business and just open my big mouth!

@KingGrthy - have you tried any handmade soaps. lovey? I used to get in grown hairs down below after shaving, but since changing my toiletry habits I don't - I stopped buying all the big name brands a while ago and switched to handmade, there are some great exfoliang soaps that aren't pumped full of perfumes which can agrivate shaved skin too. Plus most of the chemicals in soaps and shower gels etc are poison, many carcinogenic!! I better not name the companies I buy from but they are easy to find on line. I do have several friends who make their own soaps (so I do swapsies for my handpun yarn!) all perfumed with stuff from their gardens. I have noticed a great improvement in my skin since stopping using 'shop bought' toiletries - my skin is usually very dry, thats improved immensly - with some of the soaps I don't even need a moisurizer after showering! Also changed to salt deodorant - my pits are never sore now - even after shaving! Its amazing, the small changes we canmake to get improved skin - I honestly don't know how the big toiletry companies get away with using most of the chemicals they use!!
