The Great Pub Quiz Game Thread

I can’t work out how to copy the table format :sob: Any tips?

It’s okay, you can just type the answers to those as “one, two, three, four” :+1:

(but if anyone ever wants to see the code for these things you can pull up the reply editor and point it at my post, and then tap the ‘quote’ speech bubble in the top left of the formatting bar, and that will copy the whole thing into your reply window :+1:)

Ah, well spotted. It should be FOOT. :slightly_smiling_face:

I award a +1 golden edit for anyone who needs to adjust their answer. :slightly_smiling_face::+1:

Yes, both are both. :+1::slightly_smiling_face:

@Ian_Chimp I’ve just changed FOOR to FOOT on my answers, didn’t change anything else

@SexInTheCity I copied the whole thing into the notes app on my phone, did it then copied and pasted it back and there appears to be a table

Hmm, not sure about the word ladders as my answers to both 7 and 9 have a completely pointless step just to add a word and 7 also has a proper noun which I’m not certain is allowed but I think they work .

They are from a bargain bin Christmas quiz stocking filler thing, so don’t expect them to be gospel. :slightly_smiling_face: @MsSubExperimenter has got a couple of alternative routes on the word ladders which seem to work. :+1: Not 100% sure FLOD is a word though. :slightly_smiling_face:

@Peitho if I’m right with number 5, and you want a hint, how are Cerberus and his sister? And your horse?

@MsSubExperimenter  Got 5 now! ART was throwing me off.

@Ian_Chimp Flod (plural flodes) A waterbody or water in general (opposed to land): A river; a waterbody that moves in one direction. A lake or ocean; a large open body of water.

And yes, I did just Google

I can’t find it in a real dictionary, only the wiktionary entry?

 It’s in the Middle English Dictionary:

https://quod.lib.umich.edu/m/middle-english-dictionary/dictionary/MED16368

Okay, either I’m living in the past or It’s no longer a real word, I can accept a nil point for that one as obviously I didn’t have a clue what it meant when I put it in it just sounded like a possible real word

ETA I think mainly used in Middle English because people couldn’t spell then… I clearly still can’t spell now! :joy:

I even checked my scrabble dictionary and it didn’t even have it in there. :slightly_smiling_face:

We could make up our own definition?

Flod - the sound a butt plug makes when it falls out in the baked goods aisle.

I always think the name of the Fifa? guy Sepp Blatter sounds like the noise of diarrhoea hitting the pan.
I remember Alexei Sayle saying the name Trish is the sound made when you tread in dog poo.

The Great Hump Day Quiz! 🐪

Welcome to this Wednesday’s Great Hump Day Quiz! All newcomers are most welcome :slightly_smiling_face: Check out the rules, pop your answers in a post, and I’ll add you to the Scoreboard. :+1:

Where do the questions come from?

I found a mysterious old box of trivial pursuit, with even more trivial pursuits stuffed inside. It is a treasure trove of quiz questions, and all of them really old. :slightly_smiling_face: Perfect fodder for a Hump Day special. :+1:

Piecing together a few bits and bobs, there were three sets, and a couple of the instructions. One is a Genus Edition, dated 2001, and the other the 20th Anniversary one, 2004. There’s also another old style board and questions in there that looks/smells quite a bit older. That’s the box they’re all stuffed in, and that has ©1983 printed on it. No instructions, so not sure if that’s accurate. That one says it’s a Master Game Genus Edition.

So, there you go. It’s a bit random, but it should add to the fun. :slightly_smiling_face:
