Is it just me?
The amount of tradespeople who either do not return phone calls, promise they will do a job ‘next week’, which never happens or don’t turn up to provide a quote amazes me.

If they are in demand they will drop little jobs and go for the money makers …. Thats why i try to do everything myself…. Plus a better job than some
Yes as @Craig1234 says they will go for the big money jobs, plus whilst waiting for stuff on those jobs to dry/set etc they will squeeze in the smaller, less luctrative one’s. Also i’m guessing they ignore the phone to avoid explaining themselves and because they’re busy. Not ideal i know.
I try and do most stuff myself, Youtube can be very instructional and buying a few new tools can be cheaper than employing a professional. Plus it’s very satisfying to sit back and say “I did that” If i do need to get someone in, i try and get recommendations from friends, family or workmates.
Drives me crazy.
If they don’t want the job that’s fine, but don’t say they will phone or turn up of they have no intention of doing so.
If they have an issue which may prevent them from attending then phone and cancel. It’s basic good manners.
Seems to be happening alot more these days![]()
I recommended a tv aerial business to someone saying they are very good, only to find out they didn’t turn up![]()
Yes there does seem to be a general “can’t be arsed” attitude nowadays.
Yeah we needed half our roof replacing. guy came round to look, said he’d return with a price, and didn’t.
And our plasterer retired before finishing our job. We’ve now lived in an undecorated house for over a decade. Tried to get plasterers/builders every now and again but the response is so lack lustre we’ve given up.
We have had quotes for two ceilings to be replastered and our wooden floors to be sanded and we have said fine go ahead but we have been waiting for over a month for them to tell us when they can start, which is holding us up with going on the market. ![]()
It happens loads here too and my dad now reluctantly likes to get trades people out unless it’s a must cause of this ![]()
Unfortunately it happens. Generally if people mess me about I take my business elsewhere. If they don’t respond to calls or emails then they evidently don’t actually want the job.
