Another update.
I GOT MY HORMONES!
Congratulations I hope all goes well for you x
Congratulations!!!
Can i just ask you how long it took between speaking to your GP and getting an appointment with the clinic? Was your GP supportive and did they offer you any support while you were waiting for your first appointment? Sorry for the questions, Iām non-binary / gender questioning and struggling with the likelyhood that I will have to come off my contraception (which i am using to stop my periods) due to high blood pressure which means Iāll have to deal with having periods again and all the stress and saddness that causes. I havenāt spoken to my GP about my gender identity yet, they have me recorded as female.
My doctor was very supportive and referred me straight away. Depending on where you are will dictate times. While the clinics are busy they are trying to improve services. For me it was about two years. There is lots of support online and numbers you can call for help. Thatās if your UK based others countries are different. I found it helped to watch YouTubers who are trans and try to make friends with people who are trans where possible. The most important thing is to have a big support network. As many friends and family as possible. Itās what helped me most.
I check the site most days so feel free to ask your questions Iāll answer what I can and Iām sure others will pitch in.
Your doctor needs to be your first port of call but if you have the finances speak to a therapist that specialises in LGBT issues. Thatās what i did before I called the doctor. Just do a search near you and you can do a phone session if you prefer .
Thank you @Naomithea Itās so good to talk about this with someone who understands. There is an LGBT social group near me and they organise a coffee meeting for trans people which I was thinking of going along to but Iām really anxious about it. I worry that they wonāt accept me because I still very much look like a girl and dress like one too. I donāt have a problem with my upper body and I donāt really want to change how I look, Iām just really distressed by having a female reproductive system and a vagina! I canāt say I want a penis either. In my head I have neither and donāt want to accept what is there. I guess Iām worried that I wonāt be accepted as non binary because of the way I look and dress. I think your right, talking to a therapist would be really helpful as long as they donāt try to tell me that itās just trauma related (iāve heard that so many times!)
If they tell you itās trauma related itās probably the wrong therapist. This local group sounds like a good idea I think they will accept you. I find most trans people are very accepting. Bear in mind a therapist canāt tell you what to do they will help you unpick your thoughts though. I think you need a referral from your doctor to go to the trans clinic. From there they will be in better position to help feel more comfortable in your skin one way or another. Thereās many options, they are the experts see them and they will help you. If surgery is where you want to go they will help you whether you want penis or jus5 donāt want a vagina. There so many options and everyoneās journey is different. But Iām here and the doctors are here to help. Keep me updated and push forward with your journey. I wish we could contact on a personal level so I can help you move forward but this isnāt allowed on this website. Remember your journeys is important and no matter who you are you are loved and valid.
Thank you so much x
