Two Teachers Arrested in Birmingham Over Extreme Porn

Hey all. Have you heard the story in the news recently about two teachers being arrested for possession of extreme porn?

When I heard the story my initial reaction was, what constitutes extreme porn? I'd guess stuff like necrophilia and bestiality comes under that category. Anyway, I read an article on the Telegraph, which was published in 2008. It was talking about a new law that was coming in at the time (and is now law) about outlawing extreme porn. And they were talking about campaigners that were worried that bondage would fall into the illegal 'extreme porn' category.

So from there I did a bit of reading, and according to some people's intepretations of the law, bondage is considered illegal. Which I thought was pretty bizarre. Shagging dead people and animals is disgusting, of course, but tying up a consenting adult?

Just wondered what other peoples opinion were?

Considering they were teachers, night it have been related to children?

Bondage shouldn't be illegal if it's between consenting adults with safety procedures carried out.

I'm horrified by this!! In my opinion the line should be drawn on acts involving the inability to consent - such as animals, children and necroph' *shivers in disgust*

Could you link these opinions for us? You've got me intrigued...

From my understanding of 'Extreme Porn' - there were plans to make possession of material which depicts violence or 'rape' scenarios illegal. As someone who browses Reddit alot, i've stumbled across fair share of gifs and pictures which show women (and it's 95% women) in situations where it looks like they have been forced or co-erced into acting out various scenarios and they look distressed. This usually involves them being gagged, punched and generally made to look and feel degraded.

It's hard to comment on this without knowing the full circumstances, but I am against that aformentioned material - Do I think they deserve to be arrested (if that is indeed the type of material they had) - No. Perhaps educated about his this sort of material could be detrimental, and a better understanding of how the porn industry works.

Unless the material they held was indeed of children, then yes, their arrest is fully justified.

Just had a quick look online and found the original article here which thankfully said it has nothing to do with minors:

However, I think uxo wanted to discuss people's opinions on whether or not bondage porn should be illegal due to some campaigners worrying that bondage porn would fall into the illegal category. I think that's the gist of this topic and I agree with Shannon - as long as everyone is consenting, playing safe and an adult then there really shouldn't be a problem :) x

I suppose this would actually all come down to "Who" exactly thinks Bondage is 'illegal' and what they are defining as Bondage. From what I understand, the BDSM culture has such a broad spectrum that to define it in any one way seems somewhat impossible. It all comes down to consent of course - but that does lead on to my earlier point - there are some sites which provide material that gives the very strong impression that consent is not implied, and can cause some concern. Granted this is usually very extreme in nature, and it's difficult to establish what's acting and what's not. This is where I think the main issue lies - how far is too far?

I think we may all of missed the point. I suspect as we can now have B Tec or NVQ's in needlework, dog walking and cup cake making ( non of the aforementioned being belittled) these misguided teachers were just exploring the opportunity of extreme porn being studied as part of the national curriculum.
