UVC Light Sanitization?

I recently got a UVC sanitization chamber for my CPAP machine, but was also thinking of using it to clean sex toys. I’ve just done a little reading and it sounds like UVC light can degrade plastic.

Does anyone know if that is also the case for silicone?

Has anyone here regularly used a UVC light to sanitize their toys with good or bad results?

I haven’t and have no idea how they work I’m afraid but what I would say is that I wouldn’t risk it. A mild anti-bacterial soap and warm water is good enough to clean silicone toys. Hopefully this gives the topic a lil bump anyway in case anyone has specific info about the machine you’re talking about :slightly_smiling_face:

You can generally use them for sterilising silicone sex toys, and there are some on the market that are designed for sex toys. However, unless you have a real need for it (say you’ve had a STI), then it is a little overkill for cleaning sex toys. It’s also worth noting they will only work where the light will touches, so if you have a toy that has ridges, or split parts (like rabbit ears), then you do still risk leaving bacteria in those areas.

UV can attack plastic(think those fogged over car headlights) a dishwasher is great for non electrical toys?

Yeah my current routine is to use a foaming sex toy cleaner, rinse that off, then wash again with soap and warm water. This would likely be a potential extra step for anything that would be going up an anus. Thanks for the bump!

Good point on it only working with exposed surfaces. I think only one or two of the toys that I would have an interest in cleaning with this method would have that issue. It’s definitely also overkill, but I’m just kind of weird about stuff like that sometimes.

We’ve got a bunch of young kids and both the wife and I work from home, thus we run the dishwasher twice a day with just dishes. Not sure I’d be able to squeak a steel wand or butt plug in there, let alone worry about forgetting in the morning and having to answer some awkward questions. I’d be more likely to go the boil method or use my steam cleaner.
