There’s been a few things lately.
First of all, about six weeks ago I had a katsu curry that just… did not agree with me. I was sick three times in one night, and since then my appetite has been “a few forkfuls and done” kind of thing.
Well, I thought it was gas, so I’ve been taking Rennie Deflatine with hit and miss success for relief, but then something told me to try normal Rennie, for acid. Oh my goodness! The relief has been incredible. No more bloating and cramping - I’m actually getting hungry again!
Oh, and overnight oats was an absolute no-no for my sensitive gut. But hey, we live and we learn
The other thing was yesterday I helped my Mum evict the guy who has been staying with her for the past few months. They have an informal, verbal agreement and he hasn’t paid rent in full in about four weeks, including nothing at all this past week. Meanwhile, my Mum batch cooks and, when she leaves meals on the side to cool, he’s been helping himself to extra portions.
Some of my brother’s clothes also went missing, so she asked the lodger if he’d seen them, he said no and when she checked his room (he’s been gone 48+ hours, avoids all contact) she found them in there. Now, my Mum was of the belief she had to give him “reasonable notice” and I said that can’t be right; if he’s been found attempting to steal from the family then they should be able to kick him out with immediate effect.
So yesterday I asked ChatGPT and it explained to me what “reasonable notice” means – if she just wanted the room back then she has to give him reasonable notice to quit, but as he hasn’t paid up, avoids contact and has attempted to swindle personal belongings then she can throw him out with immediate effect, and will be doing so today after I shared the chat with her. She’s been told she has to let him collect his belongings but I’ve suggested she documents them and takes them to a nearby self storage unit instead of letting a would-be thief back into their home, she can pay for a week or two (they have no minimum period) and what happens to his stuff after is up to him. My brother has also let his former and current employees – both pubs he works at – know that the guy – a regular customer – is a thief and not to be trusted, and my Mum is getting her locks changed tomorrow.
So that’s the third guy I’ve helped evict now, fortunately from different places but all for similar offences
