So as some of you know i have been going through a really bad time in my relationship and i have to say i have not been eating i have lost so much weight whats the best way to build myself back up in weight without it going to the extreme and going all onto my stomach? do you eat bad food or good food?
I think you could say i'm now underweight, Thanks for your advice i will get in the healthy food again.
Just hang in there Alicia4Ever i'm sure it will happen in time, For me i didn't need to loose weight but things went so wrong with my life the need of eating wasn't there.
As Alicia said, good food is better. Do it gradually though. Increasing (or decreasing) your weight too quickly can cause problems in itself. Get your body into a regular eating pattern (eg 3 meals a day or whatever works for you) even if it is just something small and then work on increasing the calories etc per meal
I have been walking for a hour a day i'm just finding it really hard to eat
Hi, sorry you are going through a tough time. If you are struggling to eat meals (whether especially if it's the prep or if your stomach is unsettled with anxiety but also if you are forgetting or finding it overwhelming) I would suggest regular, small snacks with a high protein density, teamed with a small amount of carbs. A handful of nuts in your pocket when you go for your walk, wholemeal toast with peanut butter, some Greek yoghurt. If you can get a couple of bits of fruit in too that will help balance it out. Don't put pressure on yourself that you have to have a full breakfast, lunch or dinner if your tummy is feeling churny with worry, try to eat small amounts but regularly. Try not to skip breakfast and remember it doesn't have to be cooked. It sound obvious but sometimes even making a sandwich seems overwhelming, there is absolutely nothing wrong with just eating the components of a sandwich! It doesn't matter if you haven't buttercream bread, put the cheese in and the ham in between or just eaten a plate of ham, cheese and bread, your body doesn't know.
I have no idea if I am barking up the wrong tree and this is not the type of advise you are looking for but hope it helps you take care of yourself just a little more x
Thanks AmyA I can just about manage ceral in the morning and then toast later on in the night sometimes with baked beans, I'm even loosing my sleep im getting like two or three hours sleep, As i have epilepsy i have to really get the right amout of sleep which i'm not getting, with the meds i'm on when things stress me out it just goes over and over in my mind and i cant switch off.
Thanks for your food tips. I have to try harder.
I strongly recommend that you see a doctor if you can. They should be able to give you more personalised help and maybe even refer you to get help from a dietitian if that would be helpful. Other than that I second what others have said, definitely get some protein and carbs and if you're struggling to eat much fruit and veg a multivitamin can help (not a long term solution obviously but might help for now). And yeah, if you can't stomach large amounts of food then try having lots of smaller snacks throughout the day.
In consultation with a medical professional you could also try an app, myfitnesspal It tracks calories and other key nutrition requirements and allows you to set goal weights over a period, then gives you the appropriate number of calories to consume. It takes things like lifestyle and exercise into account.
Ive used it to put on weight when I was bulking with weightlifting and cut weight also.
is a little painful to get started but it nice you have your regular food in it, it's pretty quick. Has barcode scanner which captures lots of manufacturers nutritional information, then just comes down to portion size and volume consumed.
teacake, as I've always been on the plus side, I don't have any advice, sorry.
I just wanted to say I'm sorry to hear that and wish you good luck.
It may be worth you using Nutritional shakes alongside small snacks at regular intervals, a GP can sometimes provide the shakes on Prescription too if needed, We have recently had a rough patch and at only7.5 stone I cant afford to lose any weight at all, I set a timer on my phone for every 2 hours and eat something even if its just a couple of ginger nuts or a slice of toast. Really sorry to hear about your bad relationship situation Hope things get better for you soon x
As everyone’s said, your GP will give the best plan (or be able to refer you to a dietician, etc.). Of course, you should set out with a goal in mind because there’s no point eating a ton and getting round if that would bother you, and there’s no point forcing a super strict health diet and exercise regime if you don’t want to be ripped, etc. Personally, I’m enjoying unsalted/plain mixed nuts and mild cheese as little, frequent snacks because I have low appetite right now. I don’t know what your dietary requirements are, but maybe try to eat a little of everything healthy that you *enjoy* to help get you used to increasing your eating ? :> Good luck, I hope you feel much better soon !
Sorry to hear this... There is no real answer here, everyone is different, what works for one person might not work for the next. Talk to a doctor and consider a nutritionist. You usually find them, good guys, at your local gym. My mate is a PT at a gym and has a degree from Leeds uni as a nutritionist. My 2p from my experience of bulking and putting weight on, is eat, eat and eat some more, I ear every 2 hours. Be it a meal, or 2 boiled eggs or even a handful of fruit/nuts. I make some I eat something.
Thanks Everyone
Funny i was thinking about going to the doctors to ask for help, I should know better because my daughter went through a eating disorder 3 years ago, It was hell for her and us, Mainly because i was the forcer i was the one who was telling she has to eat everything before she leaves the table.
Thing is no one would be forcing me to eat, I guess letting it out on here has helpled me
Thank you for your suggestions.
Hi Teacake,
I have the same problem, I really struggle to keep weight on and gaining any is almost impossible, your situation sounds very similar to mine. I don't suffer from anorexia, never have, but don't have much of an appetite either. For me personally, what helps, and it's probably not the way to do it, is to just eat whatever I fancy, whenever I fancy it. People say I'm always eating, but sometimes just nibbling is the only way to make myself eat enough. I also do Pilates, this helps strengthen my core muscles and at least stops the weight from accumulating on my stomach, probably not the healthiest advice but it helps me, so it might work for you.xx
Eat normal food in moderation with treats and all will be good carbs meat veg fruit wine etc
