We've already got a strap on harness but it's a bit cheap and rubbish (bought elsewhere). I'm looking to get a good one added to my wish list.
Does anyone have any suggestions for the best one to buy with a good balance of price, quality and flexibility of use?

Whilst the link Scorpius12 posted is a great blog post, I think this Guide to Strap Ons may be slightly more useful - there are a few different types, so it can get very confusing when you look at them all!
Generally though, the best advice I can give you is buy a harness with interchangeable o-rings. That way you'll be able to use almost any dildo you wish with your harness.
Thanks guys, I was looking at some of the Doc Johnson ones. I think some of them come with interchangeable rings but also the vac u lock system thing.
Is the vac u lock stuff any good or would you stick with o rings?

I don't know very much about Vac-U-Lock I'm afraid, but you are limited to the number of toys you can use with such harness. If you do want to try it, I think going for a harness that has interchangeable o-rings included (ie offers both options) would be a great idea, just to see which one you prefer.

Alternatively, if you have a favourite harness compatible dildo you know you'll use often, investing in a pair (or two!) of RodeoH shorts/briefs might not be a shabby idea. I've only heard great things about RodeoHs and they look great too!
They sent out a beautifull harness for me today. So while I can't say anything about it until it is here, I can say something about one from the same company that I ordered before. It was the Divine Diva Harness by Sportsheets. I only sent it back because I found the black totally drab and depression, which was a bummer as I normally like black just fine. Oh, and the overflow of the straps was dangeling around, which made it look shabby.
The Sportsheets harnesses are extremely well made, have exchangeable metal o-rings, which not only allow you to use any dildo with a base with them, but also bigger and heavier ones.

Other than that I'd say a RodeoH seems to be a chic alternative. I would only think they might not do too well with bigger dildos as the cotton brief won't be able to hold more than a certain weight. But they are chic and sleek.

Personally (just my opinion) I'd recommend the Tantus harnesses a) because they are fab and b) because they are o-ring harnesses. Vac U Lock harness will limit what dildos you can use (you will only be able to buy Doc Johnson Vac U Lock compatible dildos). Go with an O-ring harness (esp one like the Tantus, that comes with multiple o-rings) and you can stick literally any flared base dildo into it....giving you millions of options and different/varying material types. Like soft toys, firmer ones etc.
The tantus harnesses are also cheap (compared to the likes of Rodeoh, Spare Parts, etc) so it won;t break the bank. I have about 6 harnesses now and generally always go back to my Tantus Intermediate harness for its versatility. Plus, the dildos that come with it (you get two! Bonus) are made from pure platinum silicone...which means they are completely odourless (no nasty sex toy smells) virtually non-porous (can literally be sterilised in boiling water or with a 10% bleach solution) which means you can clean them thoroughly between uses (great if you plan on sharing/swapping with a partner - reduces the odds of spreading bacteria etc) and those dildos will literally last a lifetime with basic care.
So overall, I think Tantus harness is the best for price, versatility, body safety, ease of use, fit (adjustable over a broad range of sizes) and even comfort (nicely padded)

I've not tried a wide range but we have the Vac u Lock Corset Harness with an 8 inch pink jelly dildo (I didn't want anything flesh coloured - a little too much like real dick).
