Who are your favourite authors?

Dawn Annandale - Call me Elizabeth. It's a true-life escort story and she's such an interesting read

Claire Kendal - The Book of You - about a lady who has a stalker, again I think it's based on a true story

Currently reading Before I go to Sleep by S J Watson and I can't put it down. It reminds me a little of Gone Girl which I loved !! Xx

I love Michael Onddatje's novels and poetry. He is the author of The English Patient, among other things. There is only one book of his I just don't get, but all the others are fab. Highly recommended if you like poetic prose.

I tend not to have favourite authors... I drift from book to book and land as my fancy is caught. But...

More love for Pratchett here and King too; I must agree.

I will recommend Mercedes Lackey for light reading though, if you like fairy tales. Most of hers are simple fare, tending towards romantic and often with some sex. Some are boderline trashy, but you can't win them all - can still be fun if you're not looking to be too serious. Her Valdemarr series is, however, more in-depth, complex, and emotionally involving.

I was really impressed with George R. R. Martin's Tuf Voyaging (sci-fi) and while I enjoy A Song of Ice and Fire, they are pretty exhaustive.

Also I'm a sucker for Poe, Shakespeare, and Wilde.

Oh and I tend to enjoy the 'Girl in Another World' archetype; so I adore the Alice stories, the OZ series, Gaiman's Coraline, etc.

For a writer, I'm actually terrible at finding time to actually read a book but right now my favourite has to be Jon Ronson. Bloody brilliant!

My favs are :

DH Lawrence

Dennis Wheatley

Portis Da Costa

Sylvia Day

HG Wells

Gabriel García Márquez is my favourite author - the writing makes my mind feel like a cloud![](upload://4WyQT1gwKaQJNwhYxrKZ1rOPglF.gif)

Louis de Bernieres, Michel Faber, Angela Carter, James Herbert (though a bit ‘samey’ after a few), Ben Elton (very underrated as an author I think). Recently re-read ‘The End of the Affair’ by Grahame Greene, a quite wonderful book.

Philip Pullman is probably one of my favourites, his books remind me of being a teen and using his works to escape reality for a bit.

Read alot of crime and political thrillers, also Lee Child, John Grisham, Jeffery Deaver and John Connelly.

I've

I've read loads of stuff over the years but I think the key ones that stand out for me are: Sir Terry Pratchett, David Gemmell, Terry Brooks for the original Shanara trilogy (the TV series ruins this slightly), George R R Martin, Anne McCaffrey. Token mention for Brian Jacques as well, absolutely loved his Redwall books when I was younger.

One of my favourite books is Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa. I really like Matthew Reilly and Dan Brown novels.

I am not massively picky about the author if the book story sounds interesting I will give it a go. I do love a Dan Brown book though.

Read a load of Agatha Christie in my younger days, and then John Gresham and Jo Nesbo. I like the way Robert Goddard writes as well.

I’m about to order some books from Nathan Dylan Goodwin, they look good as well.

Stephen King, by far. I love the Dark Tower series!

Most people on literotica 😊

Jodi Ellen Malpas EL James Conner Hayden RK Lilley Imogen Linn E k Johnston Timothy Zahn

OK, I do have to say my favourite of the classics is my namesake, Charles 😉 He was like an Irvine Welsh of his day, the establishment didn’t like him because he told things like they were. More modern writers I love Irvine Welsh, Iain Banks (RIP) and Ian Rankin, the Scots can’t half knock up a good story! Trainspotting and The Wasp Factory in particular blew me away when I first read them. But there are so many great authors out there worth giving a read

I was a pretty prolific erotica writer myself, being bisexual and experiencing various things gave me a lot of scope and avenues to go down. A series about a gay sex network, a diary type thing about a male stripper, some trans material, bondage and I’m currently rehashing a series with a sexual superhero called Rachel Rivers. The problem was that it was a lot of work (enjoyable hard work) which I ended up just giving away on websites when I would love it to be published properly. Which is a bit frustrating as I haven’t got the first clue about how to do it. So any advice would be greatly appreciated 😉

Charles Dickens novels have to be my favoutite...Also Lee Childs and Hilary Mantel.

Yes Lee Child is excellent, and Hubert Selby Jr's Last Exit To Brooklyn has got to be anyones reading list .
