OMG they should not "travel" like that. Do you remember what your previous toy was? You could compare against other products to make sure the tbar was larger?
Here is a guide to butt plugs and their use. Your plug needs to fit properly. Ideally a thin neck with a large base will prevent loss. The insertable part depends on your experience and wont make any difference to it disappearing. There are loads of threads on this topic. If you want a vibrating butt plug, pick one with a wired controller (they have stronger vibrations anyway, because more - and standard-sized - batteries can be used). That way, IF it should disappear (which I frankly can't imagine happening with the ones I have: LH Bedtime 10 functioin, Tracy Cox and LH inflating) you could use the wire to help recovery.
Though, as I said, I absolutely don't see how a plug with a decent base could disappear into my rectum. In your place I would stay away from plugs with a finger loop, though - but generally they don't vibrate (unless you put a love egg into the loop - and then the egg will stop the plug from disappearing).
To be honest I can't remember what it was called, but like I mentioned it was quite girthy (about 9" at its widest I think and about 5" total length) as I like the 'full' feeling. The t-bar must have been about 3" in length I think but was also quite flexible so just folded up I guess.
All of the above is approx as it scared me to death when I 'lost' it.
I am thinking slimmer is the most sensible option but still worried about a repeat problem.

With butt plugs, you have to eventually increase in size. Since you are experienced having been using them for so long and so regularly, decreasing sizes may pose a problem as you mentioned. I am not keen on vibrating butt plugs as their shapes and sizes are limited.
I would go for glass instead. I find that their bases are much much better. Have a think about these products below:
Hi, thanks for your reply but I think you may have misunderstood me. I only used the plug once a long time ago, and due to my 'mishap' have not ventured into plugs again. However, yes, anal and DP are on my regular to do list - with the aid of my hubby + dildo, or double ended dildo.
I do still want to try a plug again, but need to feel confident there will be no accidents.
What happened was certainly a freakish occurance, and shouldn't put you off of the pleasures anal can bring. It took a marriage proposal to get my (now) wife to agree to anal play, but she's come to love it. She's in the minor leagues in terms of insertable lengths, but I am an old hand at it, and can take some pretty big plugs/dildos.

Whereas the shape looks good, I would consider 5.25 " as much too big to start with. And being PCV it's porous and can't be sterilized. It doesn't vibrate either...
