Ok, so some of you know I’ve been off here for a few months with health issues. I’ve had high blood pressure since around 2010 but in November I was in hypertension crisis, which was pretty scary. I also have stage 3 chronic kidney disease but it might never progress to stage 4 :crossed_fingers:t2:

Everything I’ve wanted to do was put on hold. I seen 5 of my kids more than ever. I only stopped working to go for Dr/hospital appointments as I need to keep busy. At weekends some of my kids come to visit me and/or take me places. I did manage to climb earlier this month but it was just a wee hill, and one of my daughters and granddaughters were with me. Just getting up there and having a laugh doing what I love was amazing and it’s made me more determined than ever to live my life the way I want to. Life really is too short and I ain’t prepared to let illnesses take over. So all of you hikers and climbers on here, I’d love to hear from you, especially where your favourite Scottish waterfalls and climbs are.

Now that you’ve read all of that, here’s your :coffee: and :people_hugging::blush:

Thank you @David1986H :people_hugging: how have you been lately? Have you got used to your chair? I can’t remember if you ever got the one you ordered or if you were told to keep the one you got till yours was ready. Hope you’re well :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I got my chair on 7th September , I have gotten used to it although the ride is a bit firm. All is well, can’t wait for warmer weather though as wearing multi layers is so uncomfortable.

So glad you got your chair :blush:and it’s a bonus that you’re used to it now. Firm sounds a bit iffy, I hope your pavements are better than ours :see_no_evil::blush:. Well spring is just around the corner, so hopefully you’ll be more comfortable soon

Its great you managed to get up the mountain and also good the family are supportive. Life is very short and no one knows when it will be cut short, live for today and enjoy. Good luck and more hugs.

Thanks @steve19 my mum always says no matter what we’re going through someone is going through worse, and she’s right.Theres loads more worse things to go through. I’m lucky in so many ways . I love climbing and supposed to be going to try another one on Saturday, hopefully a wee bit bigger . There’s a lot of us on here with health problems and yes mental health is a health problem too. None of us know what others are going through on a daily basis (unless they talk about it in the forum) we should therefore be kind to people. Think before we type, if the words we type appeared on our skin would we be happy with ourselves? Take care of yourself and each other :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::people_hugging::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

That’s a great message @Amunique . We can’t bear the hatefulness on so many social media channels. That’s why the LH forum is so great - generally people are so supportive.

Thank you @SeaSideCpl  LH forum members are lovely and supportive most of the time :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Hi all, virtual teas and hugs all round, I’m amazed I’ve not seen this thread before!
Lovely idea @Amunique, and hope the climbs are going well.

Having a progressive condition and now using a wheelchair a lot, I really missed my sports, but had no idea how much. Until I managed to get some wheelchair tennis sorted out, which is just incredible for me. Granted, I’m nowhere near the level I (or me ego) want/expect me to be at, but I let go of that and just enjoy the experience.
We play weekly on a Tues evening, and in 2 weeks I am playing in a tournament. When I played it last year, I lost every game, threw a tantrum and went home.
I expect little improvement this time, although I aim to enjoy it more, and avoid the tantrum when I do lose ha ha

I think unfortunately with health related stuff, the initial focus is all about what we miss out on or cannot do. Very grateful for my recovery, it helps me see that life is simply what I make of it, but requires action.

It’s been a rough year so far, but finding one day at a time, things seem to be getting that little better. Not back to my normal self, but thats a good thing. I need to find my real self, true authenticity, self-esteeming and the relationship with me is what this year is about. I have to keep reminding my monster of that, and learning to just give him a hug and a cuddle. He’s softening, slowly, I think. Or he might be lulling me into a false sense of security. Time will tell.

Anyhow, hope everyone is well, hugs to you all and remember, we only ever have this moment.

My OH has a controllable but not cureable condition, and is in constant but variable levels of pain, with regular flare-ups. She doesn’t let it stop her from doing much and is usually very active. In November she had an operation that turned out to be bigger than we (and the surgeon) thought and the recovery time and the temporary disabilty caused by the op is still causing her problems, for instance, she still can’t drive, although i no longer have to cut her food up, squeeze toothpaste onto her toothbrush, wash her hair, cook, clean, run the house whilst fitting in work etc. So i fully understand your frustrations, because after 3 months, she’s certainly feeling them. I haven’t been as active on the forum due to this, especially on the games, but we’re getting there. This is a very open and supportive forum and long may it continue!

Thanks @Mr_Kink1  :coffee: & :people_hugging:to you too. My climbs are on hold, but enjoying walks in different places

We do indeed initially think of all the things we can no longer do, but once we think about it we realise we can adapt or find new things
I’m glad you’ve started playing wheelchair tennis and wish you all the best with it . Would this be Mr Kink McEnroe?:joy: . I can just see your tennis racquet bouncing across the floor :joy:.
It’s been a rough year for you, but remember that’s all it is, it doesn’t mean a rough life. You’re doing the best thing taking a day at a time, aye you’ll have good days and bad days but hopefully the good will outweigh the bad .
I hope you do find your real self and be kind to him. You’ve been through a lot and still going through so much, but in tennis terms, lob the bad times behind you, smash your goals, love the time you’re in and you’ll ace through it
I wish you all the best and good luck with your tournament in 2 weeks, you’ve got this :muscle:t2::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Sorry to hear about your other half @WillC , going through the op must’ve been a scary time for both of you :people_hugging:
She might feel she needs to keep as active as possible and not want to sit down too long, but she shouldn’t beat herself up about it. Things are already getting better and she’s slowly getting her independence back :muscle:t2::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
I hope you’re taking care of yourself too so you can take care of your OH when needed.
It’s understandable why you haven’t been so active on here, I love the support on here and there’s always someone willing to listen and offer a :coffee:and a :people_hugging::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Thanks, i am ok and do look after my own physical and mental wellbeing. From the op leading up to Christmas was stressful for me cos it’s our busiest time of the year at work, but they let me do shorter days so i was able to juggle home and work ok. :hugs:
