advice required please, dealing with severe period pain, cramps and sickness

Please ask you Dr to take a blood test and check your hormone levels they sound like they are too high, which is why hormone based contaseptives work. I'm on the implant and it's brilliant, hardly ever get period and if I do they are really light. I know this is not an option for you at the moment.

Please also ask about anti D injections. There is a combination of blood groups that don't work, naturally.

As for pain and sickness, orgasms will help with pain. I would suggest a good clit vibe, (waterproof) and/or a glass dildo. Rubbing your gspot will help with pain a lot. If that idea is just too icky then maybe try a but plug.

I assume your an excersized, give your stunning figure, make sure you consentrate on strengthening your back muscles. This sound stupid I know, but if your back muscles are strong they will help to support your stomach muscles while they are cramping, which should reduce the pain.

Ask your Dr for anti sickness tablets, the best ones I know if are called donperidone.

Sorry for a long post, I hope this helps.

Fun Louise, thank you for your interesting, informative and helpful post.
I will ask Dr to check my hormone levels and about anti d injections.
I'm more of a jogging / cycling on my exercise bike for exercise. I do sit-ups but have gotten slack recently (I'm blaming having a rough time of later lol!) I'll make sure and get back into sit-ups and press-ups starting tonight. I'll look on my gaming device for a good exercise game especially for back muscles. :P
I have a few good clit vibes, I need to invest in glass asap. I used too be weary of glass breaking inside me or something crazy lol! But I feel I'm missing out now so shall definitely be making glass my priority purchase 😊
Ty, that helps alot, don't apologise for the long post I'm the queen of them hun 👑 *♡*xx

Hi hun so sorry to hear how much you've been struggling :( my periods started when I was 9 and I was always in horrendous pain, I had to miss time off school every month because I couldnt walk and they'd make me dizzy and pass out, especially as they've always been very heavy. My mum eventually put me on the combined pill and that somewhat helped, but I had to come off of it as it raised my blood pressure. I also tried the implant when I was older, but again I had to come off of that due to prolonged bleeding and weight gain.

I was eventually referred to a gynaecologist who diagnosed me with endometriosis afted scans and a minor exploratory surgery. She suggested the mirena coil as it's apparently the best long term solution, so I had that fitted and it definitely controlled the bleeding. However, that caused major cramps in itself and sexual problems, so I gave up with that after 7 months. Strangely, my endometriosis hasnt been a problem since! I still have heavy periods but not as bad as before, and cocodamol seems to help with the pain now.

Definitely speak to your GP as if its endometriosis it can be treated with either hormones or surgery, and it can lead to infertility and increased risk of miscarriage/ectopic pregnancy if it builds up a lot. I would also mention your previous miscarriages and conception difficulties as the two problems could be linked, even if it's not endometriosis. You should qualify for testing on the nhs if you've had 3 miscarriages as well, so perhaps consider that if you're at that stage?

I'm so sorry for your losses :( I've only had one miscarriage but I found that devastating enough. Hope you find some answers soon xxx

Hi Slinky,

I used to suffer from terrible period pains. I am now better, however, these are the things, that I discovered over the years. And I was someone who was sent home from uni lectures because I was so sick and it was visible on me. Same at work. I got sick leave at work at time when there was nearly noone it. But my boss only needed one look and he knew keeping me in would not be the best idea. I was shaking like leaf, green/white in my face and I spent last 30 min in the bathroom vomiting. So not only he gave me leave, but was ready to call ambulance as I really looked in worst shape ever.

Lack of some minerals, especilly magnesium can worsen it apparently. I was advised by my GP to make sure I have enough of it to try to avoid it.

Some herbs, such as Alchemilla vulgaris are said to reduce the cramps. You may want to check the herbal remedies, I admit tea made out of this plus raspberry and strawberry leaves made it bit better. I cannot say fully ok , but better.

Exercise can help.I am not saying do it during the period, but during the whole month. Also healthy meals, with more of various food help. I guess it may be linked to the minerals and vitamins intacts as well.

Endometriosis - It may be worth checking. It is very hard to diagnose, but I know two women who had really bad period pains and in the end they were diagnosed with endometriosis. I was considering doing this check myself, but in the end decided not to. Few years back, the only way to fully diagnose this was through laparoscophy. And I did not feel like doing it. But friend with the same isue was diagnsed with it. It may be worth checking.

I wish you best of luck. Fingers crossed for you.

Cheers boo and lavelia, Us ladies have it tough. And both of you suffered horrendously. It's horrible what a hindrance it can have on our lives.
I'll check those herbs out and look for some herbal remedies, also I need to stock up on vitamins!
I do exercise regularly, although of late I've been lazier than usual.

The Endometriosis sounds scary but I guess it's better to act sooner than later and if I can get it on the Nhs that's handy. I will try to mention to the Dr on friday *♡*xx
Cheers lavelia & Boo *♡*xx

I've been on menefemic acid and tranexamic for years until I found out both when taken together can damage your kidneys and menafemic can make you infertile for periods when taking it (so be careful if you are planning on trying to concieve).

I just take paracetamol, heavy duty ibuprofen and buscopan as and when, as I am in pain from ovulation to AF.

I've had loads of scans and they suspect I have endometriosis but for that, it's a lap dye which I wouldn't be keen on and theres no cure for it apart from surgery.

Make sure they refer you because it's taken me years and being misdiagnosed, they can actually blood test you for alot of these things too now so consider thyroid, estrogen/progesterone levels and pcos

Thank you mummy mermaid, some good tips in there 😘
I've had a few failed pregnancies in the past, but they were around 9-12 years ago. I used to convince easily, I just couldn't go full-term 😞
I'm concerned that we've been trying regularly for 8 years! I haven't used vitamin's, that's probably what I'll do now and calculate when I'm ovulating. I must admit I want to give birth more than anything. Don't get me wrong I love my step -daughter too pieces as though she's my own. Only she doesn't live with us now and she's getting older (meeting bfs etc). I know a little un would be the making of us 😃

I never saw this ! If you've been trying on and off for that long it might be a hormonal imbalance or thyroid problems so I would definitely ask for a hormone profile and thyroid checking. Either way they can both be fixed with medication x

Cheers wildcherry, trying is always fun mind 😉 I'll definitely ask about a hormone profile and thyroid check. Thats awful them giving you both meds together when they can be so dangerous. I don't like taking anything unless I have too, I've been talking menefeme acid for years now though *♡*xx

I have both low estrogen (which I didn't know until I got my hormone profile) and and under active thyroid.

My last Dr was a bit of an idiot and didn't tell me, but my new Dr spotted this and took me off both straight away.

If you are serious about trying for a baby I'd stop taking the menafemic acid, my GP also pointed this out to me when he took me off the tranexamic. You can always take an alternative, I find if I'm in a lot of pain Cohydramol work amazingly with buscopan (there's a over the counter version for periods too) x

Gosh wildcherry I had no idea the amount of problems that comes with being fema. I thought I did but no....
Thankfully you got a decent Dr second time round, it's awful going through anything like this.
I bottled speaking to the Dr that day.Last week I saw a different male Dr who was really thorough, sending me to the fertility clinic (oh and the tests I dodge whenever possible)! Going on obviously all the time isn't helping, I also think I'm pregnant most months and it plays with the brain you know? But yeah I told the Dr what he could do with that toxic menaferan acid. Is it only when you take them they decrease fertility? I mean it's not as if the Drs don't know we're trying to conceive. The Dr also said there's no medical evidence about infertility coming from them. As soon as I googled them there's posts on it.
Sorry I'm ranting I'm just so frustrated with the incompetence. and imagine them giving me those tablets anyway, grr! Even after that whinge though, tbf it's the first time I seen this Dr in years and he's got the ball rolling what frightens me but I have to deal with it and he actually took an interest xx

I feel your pain. I too have suffered with my periods for about 16years. I have to take to my bed for 3days; I can faint or be physically sick, it's horrendous. When I was younger my GP prescribed me with various types of birth control but none work, until after my first pregnancy and I started getting the injection which stopped my periods but caused my hair to get really thin.
People, my GP included, told me that it would ease after babies. Sadly, I think it's got worse! I think some people think I'm just exaggerating, and I really wish that were the case. Lucky my husband is very understanding and helpful.

There's little more I can say than the lovelies above, but I did want to reiterate that you should stand your ground and demand further investigation. Tell them it's having a huge negative effect on your life and you cannot continue without help. Personally. I'd go back or call up every day until they help me.

I would also like to say, be careful what you take while trying to conceive. Things like buscopan and other antispasmodic medication are a no-no in pregnancy, and you might not know straight away when you fall pregnant. Dangerous territory.

Good luck sweet. Wishing you the best.

Hi lovelies, my heads pretty mashed 😕 please can someone help me. I'm booked in for endemotritus tests on Tuesdays, then see my gp the following Tuesday for the results I expect.
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to convince after endometriosis? I'm super scared 😢 and would really appreciate some of the fantastic lovehoney communities advise/expertise.

That sounds horrendous. Dont sit back you should go t your doctor and tell them it is unbearable. It sounds so debilitating and not a way to live. Maybe you should try some herbal remedies. I know it may sound a bit weak and a waste of time but raspberry leaf tea is amazing for women's health. In all honesty though it seems as though the Dr is the only way you will find a solution. The forums are always full of support in the meantime though, love and hope you are feeling better soon x

What tests are they doing Slinky? The only conclusive test for endometriosis is surgery itself, and even that can be unreliable as its sometimes microscopic. Are you having a laparoscopy? Or are they doing an ultrasound first to rule out anything else?

You can conceive if you have endometriosis, a lot of it depends on the severity of your condition. When I saw a gyno for mine she told me that it can take a little longer for some people but isn't usually a problem unless your tubes are completely blocked. Even then, surgery can clear it and some hormonal treatments can suppress it (of course you couldn't get pregnant whilst taking them but you would have a better shot afterwards). I have conceived twice despite having endometriosis, sadly I miscarried once but that had nothing to do with the endo, it was just bad luck. It didn't take me long to conceive either time as well :)

Good luck xxx

Hi slinky. As Boo has said the definitive test for endo is laproscopy surgery, I had this last yr. What tests did your doc say he could run? Fingers crossed you get to the bottom of all this and they can help you xx

I'm booked in for blood tests on Tuesday I'm unsure what they are as it wasn't explained! I spoke to my gp earlier and she said I have all the symptoms, so I'm fobbed off with blood tests and have to see the gp the following week. It seems I've been given false information. Since I've read your post boo, surgery wasn't even mentioned ffs. Ooooh noooo because of the eptopics what if my tubes are blocked? This is so hard to deal with. I've been in tears half the day 😢 I dont know what I'll do or if I'll cope if I can't have a baby 😢 it's all looking bleak for me. I'm away for a cry as it's too much to cope with right now. Thank you 4 your message boo 💖xxx
