Are you into manga and anime?

Hell yes! and I’ve noticed many tackle current issues on deforestation and stuff even if it’s being told through a bleak fantasy world.

My favourite is Bleach. I remember when it came out when I was a young teen watching it with my first bf! Feel like the ending wasn’t as good as it could have been though…

I couldn’t get in to Full metal alchemist, or Naruto.

Loved School days and Toradoro.

Wow that’s quite deep storyline for a game to have, has he enjoyed playing it?

Haha yes!! I like watching people play games too and when you get video clips in games that tell the story like a movie, I love watching them also

Bonkers how good some game soundtracks are isn’t it!

Oh really? Hopefully that will mean access to more anime with one subscription…and probably a price increase…I don’t have a sub to funimation, there was more I wanted on Crunchyroll

Yes. I’m currently making my way through the Evangelion rebuild movies. Gotta say the Amazon dub isn’t great :expressionless:

@DanceswithPenguins - I’ve been to a maid cafe and confirm they aren’t seedy. If anything they are a bit awkward because the maids talk and act like children while also treating you like one. Like a children’s TV presenter or something, haha.

I love the themed cafes Japan has in general. Like the Final Fantasy and Alice in Wonderland ones. There’s also ones with animals like cat cafes. I’ve been to a parrot, cat, owl, rabbit and hedgehog cafe in the past. They are more like tiny petting zoos rather than cafes, though.

I’ve been re-reading Nausicaa of The Valley of the Wind by Hayao Miyazaki.

I‘ve heard the film butchered the storyline so a bit torn about whether to watch it. Anyone seen it?

Beautiful, inspiring & heart wrenching classic Miyazaki. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Ahh I have so much anime to catch up on that I darent look at any of these suggestions :joy:
Definitely a more mainstream action/fighting anime person myself, we’ve watched all of the Dragonball iterations, all of Naruto, Attack on Titan, Tokyo Ghoul, My Hero Academia, Black Clover etc
I prefer long running series but my absolute favourite recently has been Dr Stone, I love love love all the science-y stuff so I hope that’s going to be a long runner :grimacing:

Yeah @PKH. Princess Nausicaa is such an awesome character! And who wouldn’t love a squirrelfox to carry around in their bag? Right?!

The story’s an epic and an absolute classic of the medium. The characters, storyline and entire world that Miyazaki bring to life are dense and rich, and deeply layered with his understanding of history, politics, religion and the dark side of humanity, as well as all the beauty and uplifting spirituality he brings.

Nausicaa was published a few years prior to setting up Studio Ghibli and it’s first release, Laputa. Miyazaki wrote and illustrated it as a Manga and was eventually convinced to adapt it to film, provided he was allowed to direct. Though some really think he should’ve waited til he’d set up his own production company.

I’ve got a much treasured 90’s english translation of his original black & white manga (over 7 books). But this threads prompted me to hunt down a copy of the recent coloured box-set. So thanks
for that!

I honestly can’t recommend this manga highly enough. It’s a totally outstanding 12 out of ten for me.

I’m not against it. Just not expecting to love it quite as much.
The original Miyazaki drawings in black ink are so good, and I’ve read this so many times now, that it’s going to be an odd transition for me to see this manga in colour!
Kinda like I’ve only every read the storyboards, but not the actual movie!

I watched Nausicaa over the weekend.

The anime‘s missing huge sections of the manga story. Massive sections!

Major characters, and whole tribes and kingdoms are missing, as well as sub-plots and vital background for the characters they have included. Lots of the darker aspects of the story have been left out entirely.

It really feels like the story’s been lobotomised and dumbed down for a younger audience, and an epic tale has been butchered to fit a two hour window.

In spite of beautiful artwork and some amazing voice talent, this movie was a huge let-down.

I’m glad I’ve seen it. It’s satisfied my curiosity, but I totally recommend reading the manga over this.
The manga’s a classic of the genre.
The anime most definitely isn’t!

Inuyashiki or Inuyashiki: Last Hero is a good anime to watch, 11 episodes.
I don’t want to say anything to spoil it, has a sad ending if you like that.

The Daily Life of the Immortal King I watched recently and it is pretty good. A guy that holds back extreme power. 15 episodes and not much I can say about it without spoiling.
It is on Netflix.

I’ve seen so much anime that I’ve lost track, I love it a lot.

Just started watching one punch man after @Mint-Monster mentioned it in a post to me a while ago, it’s my first time watching anything like this and I’ve got to say it’s bloody brilliant, he trained so hard he went bald :joy::joy:

@D_and_E - Glad you’re enjoying it. One of my favourites that I think I’ve watched like 4 times now, haha. Just love how silly it is when most superhero shows/movies take themselves so seriously :joy:

Totally agree @Mint-Monster the humour is right up my street, only 4 episodes in so far but really enjoying, it’s just so silly and that’s what I like most about it, he’s definitely not your typical super hero haha

@D_and_E Yes! I love his dilemma of being so strong that he’s bored as nothing is a challenge anymore. I also like some of the other silly stories and characters like that guy who turned into a crab because he ate so many crabs in the first episode. So wacky :joy:
