It was fun for a while when a bunch of us used it over the Christmas period but then I guess everyone got busy again so it fizzled out.
The problem with a group chat is it's much harder to regulate unwanted attention regarding from certain quarters. I know I was not the only person it happened to a couple of times at that chatroom, which also allowed you to engage 1 on 1 with people in addition to the public chat.
Trouble was, once a person was invited, there was no way to uninvite them once they overstepped the boundaries by asking too-personal questions. It also put Tturtle in the uncomfortable position of having to monitor who he could trust to invite in the first place. I don't think anyone would have envied him having to make that kind of judgement call.
With LH's old private chat, you could just unfriend the person if need be. It's not so easy to do that in a (semi) public group because eventually the person would probably figure out if someone is purposely ignoring them. (I use Proboards for online RP purposes so I have a LOT of experience with fights between group members and demanding the GM's attention etc).
If a group chat was ever brought here on an official level, these are things that need to be considered. I genuinely have no idea how LH would ever combat the issue of people looking for explicit conversation vs those who don't want that in a 1 on 1 situation, because in fairness it would have to be open to all, but I feel that the majority of us would rather keep the sexual chat to the forums and use chat to make friends. Yet clearly there are some people who feel differently!

basically it was like facebook chat, it allowed you to chat to people privately that you were friends with.
It was taken down around christmas last year as it wasnt working very well. There has been no projected date for when it will be back. but its not expected back soon
I think I'm somewhat blinkered as personally I can't really see the point in having a group chat room when we effectively have that on the forum anyway. It is also structured well on the forum so that you can participate only in the conversations which interest you. But clearly there is a point to a chat room as people are asking for it back...I just must be missing it lol.
I can see Ork's point about keeping people on the site and thereby increasing their chances of making a purchase. That is after all what LH is all about, making money!
The Lh chat wasn't a chat room, it was similar to the Facebook chat where you could have 1-2-1 conversations with members who were on your friends list.
Personally I don't miss it at all, although I made some good friends on there who I still speak to, towards the end it just became more trouble than it was worth with the hassle factor and the unwanted attentions.

Tech ruled it out as a possibility completely for the first half of the year. Thereafter, it'll need to be considered alongside all the other technical features we ask for and prioritised accordingly. Sorry I can't give a clearer forecast!

To be honest, when I read this, I did think 'Hmmm..... a slipping deadline is a sign of lack of motivation'.... and... 'Is LH just trying to let us down gently?'.
I do wonder what's in it for LH to restore Chat. They have to divert considerable resources to re-design it.... and it's probably going to generate the level of complaints that they had to deal with before. On the other hand, the more populer the website and the more 'hits' it gets, is commercially advantageous.
It's not a great substitute, but some members are putting their email in their profile, in case anyone wants to say 'hi' without burdening a forum thread with one-to-one chit chat.
Just after Christmas, Lovehoney underwent a technical overhaul which meant that we had to lose the Lovehoney chat function. It was buggy and frustrating for users and because it wasn't up to scratch it couldn't be transferred.
The tech team have assured me they will be implementing a new and better replacement, but it's likely this isn't going to be during the first half of this year. *sharp inbtake of breath* I know this is going to be a bummer for a number of you who love the chat function and the privacy it offers.
However... the Lovehoney Forum has loads of active members here to talk about sex and relationships, sex toys, lingerie and erotic fiction. And if you fancy more light-hearted chat, the off topic forum is pretty brisk.
Please remember: that the Lovehoney Forum is not and never has been a place for hooking up - whether for cyber sex, dirty chat, phone fun or real life meets. So if this was something you were doing via the chat function, please don't bring it onto the forum and remember to read the http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/help/forum-rules/.

Agreed :) I fear that if LH bought chat back then people wouldn't be as active on the forum and it would go down hill. I love it just the way it is.. Lots of lovely people to chat to xx

I hardly used the Chat function, and when I did I got creeped out by most of the people I ended up chatting with because I was quite vanilla when I started using LH. Now I've experimented with myself a little, I'm a little more open to the ideas that come with sex. I do like the forum without the chat. People seem to interact as a group just fine without the chat function! And, if you're having a bit of a vanilla day, you can just stick to the off-topic section! :D
I'm pretty sure a chat function is the least of their concerns. Besides, we seem to be doing pretty alright without it.

From what I can tell, a lot of Lh members don't need the chat anymore and seem to be doing just fine without it. And no it won't be coming back, there was a thread about it somewhere, they confirmed it to one of the members.
