Just had a quick look online and there are inflatable silicone sounds, which, with lube might be a way of you expanding yourself so you can then accommodate larger steel sounds.
[Although I have to say at 1.5cm that sounds (forgive me) as pretty large already]

I would steer away from silicon ones, i found the texture a bit rough even with lots of lube, much prefer stainless steel.

For first time personally I feel stainless are best as they are more controllable, plus they seem to stay lubed better, silicone sounds seem to dry up a bit. And with silicone being flexible if youāre a bit tight on size they can be more difficult to insert.
That being said for masterbating and sounding play I always use stainless but I have got a 13mm silicone sound in the shape of a nail and I can wear that for a longer period as with it being flexible it I can wear it under my clothes even when Iām not erect. And due to the drying lube issue its a couple of sizes smaller than I can take to make removing it no problem.
Itās all down to whats best for you and how far your prepared to go.

The urethra is very tight just in from the opening and thats the bit that needs stretching, I probably canāt say what Iāve seen other do to get around this, I found the inflatable sound just expanded around it rather than stretch it and didnāt do anything for me. But thats my personal experience. Prefer to use plugs and sounding rods.

I have a vibrating silicone one from LH.
I find itās good just in shallow kind of targeting your glans from inside. Produces an intense forced orgasm, for me anyhow. I dont use it often as I canāt be bothered with all the sterilising etc but when I do it is worth the time and effort.
