I have a steel one (I think a bit over 1cm diameter) that is quite long and enjoyed it, havenāt used it in years. For me the problem is the cost of batteries as they are not rechargeable.
Most problems can be solved by using glass sounds. These are usually about 9 inches (22 cm) long, tapered, twisted like candy canes, have a slightly larger sphere on the end and are made of coloured Pyrex glass. The ribs give incredible sensations and are more forgiving than metal. The spiral nature means that they can be screwed into and out of the urethra, so advancing by degrees and staying in place. Also the sphere on the end can be moved up and down for some internal massage.

I initially got into sounding by accident, reading a reply to another forum post. Iād never heard of it before, and the research I did only intrigued me more.
I got my first sound purely for the medical side of things; Iāve had a few kidney stones in the past, and thought that this would assist in passing any future stones by giving them more space via gradual stretching. Iāve since discovered how good it can feel, not overly mindblowing but definitely kinky, and my wife loves watching them slide in and out, so added bonus!
Iām only up to 8mm, trying to squeeze the 9mm in but I seem stuck at that point, and I donāt want to force anything, so itās a slow process.
How long would you say on average it took you per 1mm size increment, if I may ask, and how often? Iāll probably ever only go up to about 10mm for the sake of aesthetics, but any advice would be appreciated, cheers!

Have a few of different lengths and material , 8mm and 10mm ribbed stainless steel are my usual choice when my oh decides to sound me, usually after a night out and a few gins, she doesnāt seem to like to do it without alcohol, just reminds me need to restock the drinks cabinet I have a vibrating one but is not long enough and a hollow one to allow me to come through

In the past Iāve had a few including a Rose bud set and standard metal set, the standard one I managed to get up to 14mm all its way in 8" at the moment Iāve only got some hollow silicone ones about 35cm long and ribbed you can gently slide it in all the way causing uncontrolled peeing

My favourite is a 8mm / 9.5 inch ribbed steel. Feels terrific. I love it when it goes all the way in and I see myself closing over the top. My latest purchase is a 8mm / 2.25 inch plug which I can happily leave in for several hours

Iāve recently bought a set of stainless steel Hegar sounds which are very nice. I can feel the end touching my prostate which I enjoy.
Iāve also started making my own ribbed and bumpy sounds using my lathe. They are around 200mm insertable length, 7 - 10mm diameter and made in A4 stainless steel.

You donāt actually push, it slides in under its own weight. Thereās plenty of safety advice. Iām not sure I always follow it but my bits still work.
The first time you see it slipping in feels and looks absolutely amazing
There are also hollow rods which you can keep in through climax but I prefer to remove

I use Hagar sounds and I find that they go in about 8" then I can feel them touching my prostate. I havenāt tried to push them in any further.

Iām intrigued by the thought of sounding but worried about injuring myself and also not entirely sure what pleasure is derived from it if Iām honest.

If you take it easy and do sounding as instructed, use the right equipment and plenty of lube then sounding is nothing to worry about and you should not injure yourself. Iāve been sounding properly for over 10 years and the worst Iāve had is a smear of blood when Iāve got a new size in and thatās rarely. But Iām up to big sizes.
If you start at around 8mm then thatās roughly the size of a normal urethra, buy a single sound and use plenty of lube. There are specialist lubes for sounding but I alwsys use lovehoneys discover lube.
As for why and the pleasure itās hard to explain but thereās a lot of sensitive feelings from having something in your urethra, plus the sight of seeing something sliding in to your cock is something else. For me now itās the challenge of going bigger and getting larger than the 15.5mm I am now.
Like anything itās worth a try once, itās the only way you can find out if itās for you! Itās definitely a personal thing!!
