For my sister when she passed I picked one by Katherine Jenkins I think it was called in the arms of an angel or something like that when the coffin was carried in and then at the end Eva Cassidy Fields of gold just reminded me of when we used to play in the corn fields as children. I can feel the tears welling up now.

This is brilliant thread as i work in the funeral industry and have had some funny songs on the carrry in to a chapel and some funny ending songs.
We live in sussex so if it’s a football fan it’s almost always Sussex by the sea or You never walk alone, but the non football people we have had recently always look on the bright side of life and the rocky horror show song. honestly the story’s i could tell from hearing all the types of music

Yeah one of my uncles died 3 years ago and he and my dad were massive Status Quo fans, so the final song was Rocking All Over The World, which left us smiling as we left the chapel. Sadly when my dad died such things weren’t really happening so his service was just boring hymns.

I think with all the funerals I have been to those people were boring, just normal church music

I think there’s been a trend in the last 20 years to shy away from the stuffy religious ceremonies and more towards a celebration of the person’s life, which in my opinion is no bad thing. The big church funerals can be very costly and people get ripped off. I know of one lady who was charged £250 for a silk covered pillow for under her husband’s head in the coffin, which i think is extortionate.
