Fun Louise, seeing what you write about your mother is like I have wrote it! My mum was always on a diet. She wasn't exactly massive but always bigger than she wanted to be. I saw her relationship with food and it impacted me. I've spoken to her about it in the past, turns out she is that way because of her mother. She would drink vinegar to slim down which is definitely an old wives tale. Its definitely something that has been passed down the female line, hopefully it will stop with me!
Its actually nice to know we are of similar weight, build and height. Can give each other a nudge when we need it. Once the chocolates are gone and left over cheeses etc I will be on it.
That's it mysteron! The wonder core. Sounds like its really working for you!
Rosy, there are pictures of my mother being massive when I was young. She has just lost 4 stone on slimming world, or weight watchers, I can't remember which. This is really good, but I don't know how long it will last. My father use to hit my mother saying she was fat. He use to hit me too, so logically I thought I must be fat too. Following logic, if I didn't eat I wouldn't be fat and my father wouldn't hit me anymore.
Needless to say, it didn't work, but at . . . (Pre love-honey) my issues with food were born. The teachers would make me eat my lunch in front of one of them but then I was free to go. So I would go to the toilet and be sick, then it was like I hadn't eaten in the first place. All in the futile persuit of being not fat and not hit by my father.
Since this time food, particularly chocolate and biscuits have been a comfort. Something never allowed as a child so it became sacred and since then, troughed both openly and in secret.
Oh my goodness I'm sounding like a right lunatic. I need to beat this food, weight, self loathing thing. I really NEED to lose some weight. (A lot of weight, but every lb counts, right).
I will post my start weight on the first Monday of Jan and weigh in every Monday. How about you what's your plan?
No wonder there are food issues, that is so incredibly sad!
I'm terrified to weigh myself but I am going to have to. I'm going to have to either pay to use a scale or buy one and give it to someone. I tend to get obsessive with things, part of my "quirks". When I dropped the weight a few years ago I would weigh myself every few hours or so which I knew was completely crazy but I kept doing it none the less. My husband tore my calorie counter from my exercise bike as I would stay on it until I burned every calorie I had eaten. Not healthy at all!
I think I will weigh in on a Friday evening as I usually see my husband then. He can keep the scales, hide them and it will be the same time weekly too.

Best time IMo to weigh yourself is in the morning after using the loo to get rid of any waste .If you weigh you self with some clothes keep those clothes at one side for weighing purposes. Weighing one self at the same time every week will keep the results consistent. Keep a log of your weight.Dont disclose it if you don't want anyone to know .

Mysteron, I have decided not to buy this now http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=37026
Im hoping to treat myself to it if and when I reach 18st. I think it's important to have rewards other than food, and I don't want to depress myself if it doesn't fit. So motivational aid, carrot!
Very nice outfit and as I have said before it is the same garment I am buying my Mrs for Valentine's day for wearing underneath a dress .
I'm thinking of getting back into Weight Watchers soon - does anyone have any stories? Good or bad!

My mother was in Slimming World and lost a lot of weight. The advantage of joining a group is that they will help you to set realistic goals and give you encouragement in attaining them .Your weight isn't disclosed to the rest of the group apart from the group leader .Only what you lose is disclosed with awards like slimmer of the week/ year are often given out. You will be fine .Recipes are often exchanged at group's like these as well.Down side to attending groups like these is just the cost IMO .

Yes I have had a friend on Slimming World and she lost quite a bit of weight, I am not too sure how easy their process is though. Convinience is a big need for me as I am quite busy!
It's hard to get your foot in the door especially to make a lifestyle change :(

I agree it isn't easy making lifestyle adjustments .I had to make adjustments over a few years to get where I am today. Gone are some of my favourite foods like pizza and all those wonderful and tasty hard cheeses .Gone are the days when I can just throw myself on the sofa when I come in from work and have a snooze. Now a days its a case of changing out of my work clothes and spending an hour working out and then ,showered and dressed .Then I can snooze on the sofa after
My advice is to make small adjustments over a period of time and then they will become routine .If one tries and changes too much at once you may end up resenting the change and reverting back to old habits.
God luck
Ok so I have joined a local gym. I'm not a gym girl but I'm going to go with a friend so hopefully she will motivate me. If I hate it I can cancel anytime there is no contract.

That's a good idea going with a friend as you can keep each other motivated .Perhaps a bit of friendly competition as well .
FL and RosyCheek (and everyone else going down the weight loss road), good luck xxx
Don't forget it will happen fairly quickly initially and then level out. It is that point that I think people find it the hardest to remain focused as they no longer feel they are getting the results anymore. So make use of all the advise and support you can get from here and anywhere else.
You guys can do it - you have each other, and all of us right behind you xxxxx
Well done for joining the gym Fun Louise! So proud of you taking such a leap!
Hurray! Got rid of that slight excess I had. I think it was more don to alcohol than eating to excess.
I havnt had an alcoholic drink this week and with time to work out each day I have lost 2 pounds and back down to an acceptable 12st 5 .I also have to take into consideration increased muscle mass as well.
Going to suggest that we buy a pair of boxing gloves and a sparring glove this week and gauge reaction. She has vented up a bit of aggression this week as she has been called in by her boss to go into work and she isn't a happy bunny ! It will be a good way of working out together as well .and letting out that aggression. Just hope she doesn't miss the sparring glove !
Well done Mysteron, I knew you would be back to your happy weight in no time.
Im having a last ditc binge day. Pizza, fizz, garlic dough balls, chocolate praline shells, more pizz then tai crab cakes. Getting it all out of my system before starting to try to eat better tomorrow.
Well done mysteron. Enjoy the last binge Fun Louise. Mine was yesterday. I had pizza and ice cream with a cider.
I am a STONE heavier than I was when I last weighed myself, that was a bit rubbish. However I got my got it that will move me along. I've not managed my full 8000 step count today. It's been a rainy day so been in with the kids. Done a few runs up and down the stairs. My sleep tracker was interesting to see. I went to bed around 1am, up at 8am when the postie woke me up. In those 7 hours only 3 and a half were actually a deep sleep.
Day one done. Roll on day 2 of operation 5 stone weight loss!
I'm weighing myself on Mondays so my first weigh in and start weight is tomorrow, but I'm starting eating better today.
2x boiled eggs for breakfast ( no toast).
Wearing my first muscle fit garment today .It's a jumper which I am teaming it up with a blazer for a smart casual look .Taking the Mrs for an afternoon lunch .
I wouldn't have dreamed of wearing something like this just over 12 months ago as it shows off every bump .
Just shows how much change you can bring to yourself in 12 months. Thats why I am confident you ladies if you stick at it will different this time next year.
That's great Mysteron, I do hope I can have a similar experience next year.
I don't normally come around to threads like this, but just thought I'd pop in. Seeing all the comments on weight loss, I just wanted to add that I totally think you ladies can do it! :D Things that can help:
- Don't focus too much on a diet or losing weight per se. Think of it more as a lifestyle change: more balanced, well-portioned meals and a good amount of physical activity.
- Little changes e.g. walking to the shops instead of driving, smaller plates, baked instead of fried, they all help more than diets. Google for recipes that are healthy+yummy, instead of just plain salad and grilled chicken all day. In my experience, that works so much better just because you then don't feel like you're denying yourself things or that you need to have cheat days.
- The number on the scale will probably fluctuate and that's okay.
- Take photos of yourself (front, side) and measure yourself - these are better indicators :)
- Set realistic aims for yourself. I mainly just want to stay healthy and be able to climb munroes without huffing and puffing! Find something that will motivate you, whether it's that dress or that person you want to impress ;)
- An accountability partner can be really really helpful with this, especially on days when all you want to do is give up and curl up with a tub of ice cream (but if you do grab some ice cream, don't' feel guilty about it, just carry on)
Rooting for all of you! <3
