Unless you're bleeding for 12-14 days - up until you ovulate, during your period is definitely NOT the best time to try and get pregnant! I don't know who told you that load of rubbish- I know it's possible to ovulate so early in your cycle but it's unlikely. Sex every day isn't advisable for potential conception either - every other day from day 10 - 18 is best.
My sex drive rises sharply from when my period had stopped, peaking at around day 12, then as soon as I've ovulated, it's like a switch has gone off and my sex drive disappears.
If I don't ovulate then my sex drive stays pretty constant. I must admit to being surprised when I found out that a lot of women don't know/feel when they ovulate.

The thought of sex when the red flag is flying is out of the question. I don't feel sexy, erotic or even mildly turned on, it's just a time when my body needs to relax and recover.
My Hubs understands completely, I just tell him that it's 'goodnight' time and he understands. Frankly I don't think that he'd want to engage at that time. Sure we still cuddle, we're still in love, we still spend most of our time together. Our relationship can stand a few days without sex, it makes the 'free' days more of a pleasure.
