I would say that unless you are 100% sure of her likes/dislikes and what she is comfortable with, not to mention her sizing it would be best to include her in the choosing.
This is so easily done by the good old 'get her to make a wish list' method - then make an order from that. You know she is going to like it because she has chosen it - but she won't know exactly what she is getting.
