I used to love fiddling about in rock pools as a child when we went on holiday to places like weymouth or bognor regis.
Went out to the back garden for a walk round and overheard the two kids in their garden. The little girl said to the boy “(boys name) i am mummy and you are daddy and mummy has been very naughty” made me wonder what she has seen or heard ![]()
Ps sorry thought this was the What are you currently doing topic. Not really ranting about it.
My dad used to inflate a couple of lorry tyre inner tubes and we’d play for hours in the pool, fun is what you make of things and doesn’t have to be costly.
Just amazed me that people expect kids entertainment to be laid on during term time!
That’s poor planning from the parents (or laziness). I always do my research prior to going away. Every day is filled with activities. It’s definitely the minority, we’re not all like that ![]()
I don’t doubt it! But it amazes me to see someone claiming they’re all bored when there’s so much to do with a bit of imagination and forethought!
Not so much a rant as a “really???”
Local Facebook community sites seem to have a constant feed of things along the lines of 3 piece suite free to collector, need it gone ASAP!
There’s a pic of said suite, worn and saggy with dubious stains all over it!
Just take it to the tip or pay the council to take it away!
Another one is asking if the ice-cream van can visit a certain street now!
Yeah cos the ice-cream man is sitting scrolling through Facebook waiting for your request!
It’s the ice-cream man not feckin Uber-Eats!
I’ve seen some appalling stuff on our local FB sites. It’s nearly always crappy old office chairs and sofas that have holes in and suspect stains!
Some of this rubbish isn’t even free… they’re actually asking money for it!
Basically they’re hoping someone will take it off their hands because they’ve no way of getting it to the tip. Our council charges an arm and a leg to collect large items and our local tip has been closed down. It’s 17 mile round trip to our nearest tip now.
@WillC @wildflower Yes I see the same on my local one, What actually annoys me and some others is that where I live in a nice block of flats, we have a a dedicated bin storage area but some residents chuck all their bulky items in there when nothing like that is allowed, knowing full well it will get taken away by housing association, but each year we get charged for that.
Ours isn’t too bad, think it was about £30 for a 3 piece suite. I offered the workers a drink if they’d take away an old fireplace, and they happily took that too.
It just amazes me of the cheek of people saying “need it gone” expecting people to rush out to take their old tat just cos it’s “free” ![]()
This morning I checked my bank, woah that’s not right I thought. How can you mistake a bill for a hundred for a few thousand ![]()
I contacted British Gas straight away, after spending ages on hold “oh that’s not great Miss ___ I’m very sorry, Let me check for you but that sounds like be a mistake”. Well..No shit sherlock..
Anyways It’s sorted now but I still have to wait 5-7 working to see the funds back in my account ![]()
That sounds about right from BG, I’m in flats and they told me I have accounts for two flats, When I asked what’s the number of this second meter, they told me and straight away I said that’s the Landlords meter, the electricity for general cleaning the hallway and lighting, but of course they wouldn’t take my word.
I had a frightening experience but it was all my fault! About 25 years ago, before we had the internet and smartphones, i got a debit card statement from a cashpoint. I looked at it and didn’t recognise any of the transactions, some were quite high! I had a right sweat on! So went home and phoned the bank and explained the situation. Gave all my details etc and the lady said it was all correct. I said it couldn’t be and told her the exact amount of certain direct debits. She then said with a laugh that i was referring to the wrong account!
Me and my wife have our personal accounts and a joint account for bills, mortgage, shopping etc. To save any hassle if either of us die, we use the same PIN number for that account and our personal one’s so we always have access to money. I never use my card associated with the joint account so it stays in a drawer. I’d had a new card through the post and as instructed i cut the old one up and started using the new one. What i hadn’t realised was that it was the joint account card and i’d been using it for a few weeks! The bank had to send me a new card, and i had to pay the money i’d spent back into the joint account!
The sad thing is, i did it a second time a couple of years later!
Now i scrutinise the card when i get a new one to make sure i never do it again!
Virgin Island
We watched the first series of Virgin Island and having both been through therapy and having a good idea of how it works, we were horrified at the therapists having sex with their clients. It was just so wrong. But come the end of the series we had to re-evaluate our objections because it absolutely changed those clients lives. There’s no doubt it worked.
So we sit down for the start of the second series last night ( after watching MAFSAU obviously ) knowing what to expect and with far more open minds than before. But as we got to know the clients, I found myself getting more and more angry and in the end I was fucking fuming and really upset. I sat there balling my eyes out and screaming into a cusshion with my OH looking at me bemused. It was their stories.
The shame, the bullying, the self loathing, the religious guilt and condemnation. God I was furious I so wanted to help them and reassure them and hold them. The religious one particularly hit home as I was screwed up by Catholicism so I understand exactly what was going on in her head. Plus I recognised the bullying and self loathing. Then theres the two Autistic guys. I’m AuDHD so that hit home.
Anyway .. so my rant isn’t about Virgin Island, its about our shitty society and shitty people and don’t get me talking about organised religion.
I watched Virgin Island last night and thought it was a great insight and how it helped the people on it. I agree with the bullying, religion etc all effect people and I cannot wait to watch the next installment. @I_ll_try_anything
@WillC , I really miss paying by check through the mail . It seems multiple times a year either my wife card’s number gets stolen or mine . Spend 5-7 days for new card . I have two banks I use and often will have to physically go to the bank that had the hacking , get cash to deposit in the active account . Ever since covid it seems every bill goes up randomly . As I think I mentioned I especially enjoy the electric bill going up . Our hydro electric dams were built and paid for 60 to 80 years ago , along with transmission lines . The frosting on the cake is when foreign companies were allowed to buy our local power company .
I have been working on catching up with yard and garden work . I guess I am getting too old and wore out , it is really beating me so far . Raised beds planted , tomato plants in . Was about to plant ground space and remembered we seem to have rabbits in our yard this year and after expanding garden last year I still have to build a gate and fencing . I just finished cleaning my pond ( a ton of work ) . I believe I thought up a cure for pine needles and pine cones in it . I think I will add several more steel poles and ad an angled sun shade to deflect the debris , along with privacy for nude pond use . Son and grandson are too busy to help grandpa . May have to hire neighbor kid .
I honestly can’t remember the last time i wrote a cheque, still have a chequebook though!
Yes a lot of utilities sold off to foreign pension funds etc, and don’t invest, only take.
Had snow bring down a large conifer in January and have been slowly cutting it up, bagging it and sneaking it into the household bins, until the already full garden waste bin fortnightly collections restarted this month. Been doing a lot of heavy pruning around the garden since, either with secateurs, loppers or a saw and my hands have definitely felt it. Years of steel work and some nasty related injuries, and a lot of lifting in my current job, age related wear and tear, arthritis make my hands ache like toothach! So I can relate to that! Finished the difficult pruning now, so hopefully my hands can relax and recuperate for the rest of the year! I’m trying to plant it up so it’s minimal maintenance as i get older! It’s not fun getting old when mentally you’re still a teenager! ![]()
That sounds like something I’d do @WillC ![]()
In this case I’m just lucky and have my eggs in multiple baskets and have access to other money. But imagine if I didn’t, I’d be right royally screwed.
That’s typical of British Gas @teacake, hopefully you got it sorted ![]()
There’s a few daft things I’ve done twice, like drop the end of a laptop charger into a full mug! ![]()
Some people are just part of the clumsy club ![]()
Yes I got it sorted and on that same day I said bye bye to them.
