Rechargeable Sex Toys

Hi all,

Just wanted to ask your opinion on rechargeable toys, and specifically about USB rechargeable toys.

Do you like USB rechargeable toys?

What do you think their main advantages are?

What do you think their main disadvantages are?

Do you prefer USB toys that plug directly in (like the Lelo Mia) - even though they can't be waterproof?

Do you mind USB-charged toys that have a wire (like an iPod shuffle) - so they can be waterproof?

Would you prefer a standard mains-charged toy, or a USB-charger toy?

Hiya Alice, We've never owned a USB rechargeable toy as it would either presumably need a computer to charge or a USB type mains adaptor like the original Ipods used to come supplied with.

What do you think their main advantages are?

I guess the only obvious advantage is that it could be charged from a laptop PC.

What do you think their main disadvantages are?

Unless they are to be charged via a PC USB port then they don't have any advantages over a mains rechargeable device.

Do you prefer USB toys that plug directly in (like the http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC003ZM/) - so they can be waterproof?

If I bought a USB charged toy I would prefer the wired waterproof type.

Would you prefer a standard mains-charged toy, or a USB-charger toy?

Mains charged toy.

Kind regards

M4S

I personally kind of dislike USB rechargeable toys. I don't actually own any, but they put me off.

I can see the attraction of USB toys, as you could theoretically recharge them anywhere you go with a computer, but I dont like the idea. I have broken too many USB gadgets in my time by knocking them about when I move my laptop about, and I wouldnt want to risk an expensive toy in this way as it's just an accident waiting to happen.

The waterproof thing would be an issue for me as well. I don't really use toys in the bath/shower, but I can be quite wet when I get going and I dont like the idea of my juice being able to get in there and ruin the charging point. If a toy had to be USB, I'd prefer it with a wire so that it doesn't get knocked around and broken so easily, and so that it stops the wetness getting in.

Given a choice, I'd much rather a mains powered toy as it's easier to plug it into the mains and I don't have to have my laptop or PS3 on to be able to charge it. Also, if I was going away and took my toy with me, I'd be more likely to have easy access to a mains plug than a USB port.

Do you like USB rechargeable toys?

Well, I own the Lelo Mia and I love it.

What do you think their main advantages are?

Cuts down the cost of batteries, can be charged by either laptop or I have an USB charger which can be put into the plug.

What do you think their main disadvantages are?

They are not waterproof but I rarely use toy in the shower so I just use another bullet when I do one or so a month.

Do you prefer USB toys that plug directly in (like the Lelo Mia) - even though they can't be waterproof?

Actually maybe this one, as I think it looks more like a memory stick, which is useful when your bags get searched when travelling.

Would you prefer a standard mains-charged toy, or a USB-charger toy?

I like both. Cannot say which I prefer one over the other. Its about other properties like strenght which make one toy more favourite over another.

Oh my goodness - this is a revelation! I can use my iPhone charger to plug the USB in, so I can charge it in the bedroom.

Genius!

The only thing to watch is that the device doesn't draw too much for the charger so check the amperage rating on both charger and device, it should be okay though.

lol I have MP3 player which came with USB charger for the plug so I use it sometimes to charge the Mia, works great!

The only rechargable toy I have is http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=19208 I have option of mains or USB. I usually use the mains charger with it. I have a teenage son so charging it with the USB is kinda out the question unless he is out.

I'm with Hella, I think it would be great to have either option with all rechargable toys. x

Do you like USB rechargeable toys? I like the idea, but if there's a comparable mains-charged, I'd prefer that.

What do you think their main advantages are? Compared to battery-powered, it's much cheaper in the long run, and no constant searching for new ones; compared to main-rechargable, it'd be easier to remember to plug it in while at the PC, and easier to whip it out and hide it if someone came around. Also, if you're travelling abroad, the USB-A plug is pretty common anywhere - especially if you're bringing a laptop with you - so you don't have to go searching for convertors and worrying about voltage issues.

What do you think their main disadvantages are? I spend half my time inside computers. They are not clean places. Those USB ports especially tend to be pretty grim, and I can't help but feel that it's not nice having a grotty bit that you can't even wash, even if it is locked away inside. Also the power from USB ports is much more limited than mains, so it'll take longer to charge: a laptop will always be pretty piddling compared to a desktop, but even on a PC, you really want to be using the rear ports, which again tend to have it sitting in a grungy area for a while. If you used a wire, that'd at least make rear USB ports accessible, and reduce the yuk-factor, but it doesn't help with the power issue. If you can leave it plugged into a PC for a long time, then that's not too bad, but wall sockets do tend to be in more concealable places, and require it to be out in the open for a shorter period. I also know how easy it is to break those USB connectors, and while I'm sure the likes of the Mia are specially designed to cushion the connector, it's the kind of thing that would be in my head and is not quite high on the sexy scale.

Do you prefer USB toys that plug directly in (like the http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC003ZM/A) - so they can be waterproof? Yarp. I know how filthy my PC gets even though I'll clean it every few weeks, and I'd rather keep anything 'intimate' at a distance from it.

Would you prefer a standard mains-charged toy, or a USB-charger toy? Definitely mains-charged. Quicker and cleaner, easier to replace a charger than the whole toy if it breaks.

- I love the idea of USB rechargeable toys and I remember being really excited when I bought my first one a while ago on sale. Most of us readily use a laptop or pc so it's very convenient.

- Advantages: Convenient, cheaper to use being rechargeable and also we're all usually using a laptop/pc. Easier to remember it's there and easily accessible. Much more compact and a smaller package to use rather than main powered.

- Disadvantages: Can't really hide the toys when you're charging it, for those that don't have a pc/laptop available, the toy may not be powerful enough than those that are main powered.

- From the option of it being directly plugged in and not waterproof to the wire with waterproof feature I think I'd probably choose with the wire and waterproof. That way it can easily concealed and with the extra advantage. I still like the direct ones though as they're much more compact and you wouldn't have to worry about extra things like wires when travelling.

- I would prefer the option of a USB-charger toy. The main rechargeable option is main charged and I wouldn't want so many of them tying up sockets. With the USB-charger it's far more convenient although mains powered are usually more powerful. Also as Laveila mentioned there are conversion plugs that can be readily available for those that prefer main powered.

Do you like USB rechargeable toys?

Yes

What do you think their main advantages are?

Really great for travel as I always have my laptop with me and you only need to carry the toy - not any extra batteries or charging docks/wires. Really easy to store as the recharging part is built in to the toy

What do you think their main disadvantages are?

I'm sometimes worried the connection might get damaged and with the Lelo Mia (old style) the cap wasn't very sturdy

Do you prefer USB toys that plug directly in (like the http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC003ZM/A) - so they can be waterproof?

I'd prefer no wire and none waterproof - having a wire is another thing to lose/damage/store.

Would you prefer a standard mains-charged toy, or a USB-charger toy?

I always, always pick my Lelo Mia for travelling since it just takes up so little space, but at home I prefer something that packs a bit more punch so might go for mains charged a little more often

Argh, I unbolded those bits but it won't work and won't work in edit either

Do you like USB rechargeable toys?

Out of the two USB rechargable toys I have, I like one. I like the Lelo Mia, but I dislike the cocomini. This is more down to build quality than anything.

What do you think their main advantages are?

I often find that when i'm using my Mia, my laptop will be on anyway, either with porn or waiting to be picked up to resume whatever I was doing, so for me it's easy just to slip it onto charge before putting it away.

I also appriciate not having to use any wires with it. I have a fair few rechargable toys and devices and that has led to a drawer literally swimming in plugs. Having a toy that has it's charging site built in can be a nice change to playing hunt the plug. For traveling I can see that being a big advantage.

What do you think their main disadvantages are?

I'd say that the main disadvantage is that I think USB charged toys are really limited by size, and with being limited by size, they are also more limited by design scope. While it's reasonable to leave a bullet style vibrator charging from your laptop, I cannot say the same for a traditional vibrator or anything nearing the size of a rabbit. Certainly, I cannot see it being practical in any capacity to have the UBS connection built into a larger toy like the Mia. If they were going to attempt it then it would need to be wired, and if it's wired, why not just have a plug?

Being harder to make waterproof is another negative with me, even though the majority of my mains charged toys aren't waterproof. I find the Mia quite difficult to clean, because the USB is a lot more complicated a structure than just making sure no water gets in the recharging hole of other toys.

Do you prefer USB toys that plug directly in (like the http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=14703) - even though they can't be waterproof?

I prefer it that way with the Mia because the Mia is my break from wired toys, so for me including a wire would loose the ease of USB charging while not having the flexibility of charging from the mains. I'm awkward, in that I would like the Mia to be waterproof while still having a built in USB charger.

Do you mind USB-charged toys that have a wire (http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC003ZM/A) - so they can be waterproof?

Really the same as the above. If I had a wire, the only advantage I could see over a mains toy would be that you could plug it in abroad. If you are managing to charge up your laptop abroad, is it a stretch to being able to charge up a sex toy?

Would you prefer a standard mains-charged toy, or a USB-charger toy?

The majority of my toys I prefer to be mains charged. If that can be a waterproof manner than even better. My mia is the only USB toy I need, and if I was attracted by another it would be for functions and design, not how it charges.

What happened here?! I typed a proper reply to all the questions and only Alice's first line appeared!

In short...

I go for mains rechargable - rechargable because it's cheaper and you never run out of batteries, and mains because I don't tend to travel with a laptop and already find it annoying trying to find somewhere to charge my USB gadgets like my E-cigarette. However if USB with cable meant there could be a rechargable waterproof option (I don't think a waterproof mains rechargable toy exists?) then I'd consider it.

It's nice to have the option. I'd like to see *all* rechargeable toys provided with an adaptor plug for the mains. I'm usually an overnight charger and I don't like to leave my computer on while I'm asleep for the sake of charging a toy

Im the same, I like to plug mine in to charge and then go off and leave it. I dont like keeping my laptop on though so even though i'd buy a USB toy I prefer Mains charged

http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=20543 and the other Insignia 'pleasure objects'. Not sure if there's others, seems to require some pretty tech design, but it's a start!

All the new Fun Factory new generation G4 vibes are waterproof & rechargeable - also all the We-Vibe vibes and Je Joue's G-Ki and MiMi. There might be some more but they're not springing to mind right now...

JimmyJane toys are also listed as waterproof, including the recheargeables. So there is a nice selection of those.

Do you like USB rechargeable toys?

Yes - I use my laptop a lot, for work and for play, so being able to charge up toys while I'm working is great! I already chardge up my ipod that way, and it's very convenient.

What do you think their main advantages are?

No need to find a pug socket. Obviously size - mains chargers are usually at least, well, plug sized, if not larger. A USB lead takes up much less space, so great for travelling.

What do you think their main disadvantages are?

The only disadvantage I can think of if that the cables are sometimes less hard wearing than mains chargers. I've found they split near the USB end. Not a problem with ones that plug in directly, or course!

Do you prefer USB toys that plug directly in (like the http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=14703) - even though they can't be waterproof?

I'm not too bothered about waterproof toys, as I tend to clean mine by wiping with a gentle bleach solution rather than immersion, and I don't use them in the bath or shower. I rather like pugging them directly in.

Do you mind USB-charged toys that have a wire (http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC003ZM/A) - so they can be waterproof?

Like I say, waterproofing isn't an issue to me - I'd rather have no cable.

Would you prefer a standard mains-charged toy, or a USB-charger toy?

I think I'd prefer USB. I'd worry about losing the charger for a mains one, or blowing a fuse. I travel a lot so a USB wouldbe much more convenient! It would also be brilliant if you could store some inspirational images, text and videos on the USB too ;)
