I don't know how many of the rest of you kinky people indulge in rope play...but I'm a huge fan of it and thought I'd ask a practical question...what type of knots do you use?
I'm a hug fan of the basic slipknot; the more you struggle the tighter it gets, and it's especially good around wrists and ankles. It's also easy to remove if things go wrong (not that they often do). I never thought all those things I had to learn in Girl Guides could be so useful
i suck at tying knots, so its bondage tape all the way for me. but im usually sub anyway!
i only learned clove hitch in young leaders so its not particuarly useful unless i have the sudden urge to make a washing up stand from three broom handles D:
I'd love to get into rope play. It just looks so sexy. For now we use the Tracey Cox bondage set but think I will have a chat with my OH and see how he is at tying knots and maybe get some bondage rope, see how it goes. Just hope he's better at knots than me.

slipknots can be rather dangerous as they tighten, so be careful what your using them to tie! I'll second simker that the knotty boys do good stuff, its great that the vidoes have been reinstated to u-tube, so go check that out for all sorts of help!

Just another note, remember to buy the correct rope, cheap nylon stuff you get in a DIY store tends to have knots slipping out and is too strechy. A decent rope like the following link should be good. And ten meters should be enough to get started!

I only use those for ankles and wrists, don't worry! I just can't remember the names of the other knots I use ;) I#d nevr heard of the knotty boys...I'll have to take a look at that.
And that's the rope I have...it's fantastic. And, like you, I've always found ten metres to be more than enough! I'm planning on investing in some silk rope soon, though...it's supposed to be even better than the cotton one.
Mistress has some of that too, it does feel really really good against the skin!

i've got SM 101 and that a pretty good book. Its very instructional based so hopefully this will be written in the same style. Mistress has a book called 'The seductive art of Japanese Rope Bondage' (coc de mer stock it) and thats pretty good as well.

indeed You may need to get a longer bit of rope for some of the harnesses and hog ties. Mistress has two 50ft peices of white bondage rope from bound to please. They work really well for harnesses and such.
10 m can run out rather quickly when its doubled up and used for this sort of thing!

I cant remember the nameof the knot (think its called chain sticking), but there is a way of tieing them up so that they take up less space. Plus, when you want to use them they just unravel so it makes using the them easier!
Mistress tends to only need one at a time, but sometimes its a special occasion! ;)

That site is great for learning all sorts of useful knots.
What's great about using a lot of chain stitches is the way it all falls apart when you pull the end; but the art is in structuring your bondage so that you can do that. It's not always possible.
Personally I'm very fond of tying the Karada, or Japanese Rope Dress; especialy when used to hold in a butt plug and vibrator or dildo! Only got this in recently but it is brilliant! We've even managed to follow the diagrams in the office, for some work-time shibari fun.
I only have bondage tape at the mo, but have been thinking about having a play. Would need to practice the right kinds of knots beforehand - don't want anything tightening too much!
