Is anyone doing owt for Lammas? It's too wet and wild to go off anywhere so BC and I went out for pizza then to see the Proposal last night (Ryan Reynolds mmmmmm) - BC stayed over then we went for a walk this morning while it was dry and had a really nice chat in "our tree" about our relationship and lives.
If it's nice tomorrow (doubt that somehow, forecast is for heavy rain again) Gee and I and maybe BC too might head for Edinburgh.
Oh and BC's birthday prezzie for Gee and was a dreamcatcher made from an antler and lots of beads.

What did you think of The Proposal JayGee?! But, oh, sorry, distraction. Most of the holidays with me are pretty low-key affairs, but Lammas was more of a 'several days' deal this year (I've been quite involved with the harvest since getting back, so it felt more appropriate being all integrated-y). Lots of nice outdoorsy times, very peaceful and connected. Plus, my teeny square of home-alter is looking all lovely and seasonal right now. Good times.
Speaking of, your lake relaxing time sounds like heaven, lucky mrs t. Has it been all of your family there?

No definite plans for Samhain as yet but this year I want to dress up as Sookie Stackhouse (but will end up looking more like Eddie Izzard) and have my good mates over for a fire and some food.
How about you hun - anything planned? And what's your path, if you don't mind my asking?

This is so fascinating! I'm not religious in any way (found it near impossible after listening to Richard Dawkins book "The God Dellusion" ) but I really do respect others religion! It takes guts to say "this is what I believe" particularly if the religion isn't a mainstream one!
Just to add onto that incase it sounds like I am anti religion (mentioning Dawkins tends to give that impression) I am of the opinion that whilst I don't believe in a god(s) and whilst science makes it seem improbable, the key word is improbable not impossible. There is every possibility that I am wrong (hence I usually term myself agnostic rather than atheist) and that we cannot know for sure without proof.
Some people have the guts to have faith in their beliefs. Unfortunately I don't (I say unfortunately because I think religion can be immensly reassuring - e.g. Muse "Thoughts of a Dying Atheist") however I find my reassurance in the beauty of science and nature....and my understanding of paganism (which is very limited, would love to know more if anyone cares to tell me?) is that nature is a big part of it, so maybe I'm closer to paganism than any of the other religions.
My only issue with religion is when it mixes with politics but that's a different matter!
This really is interesting and I would love to understand more about paganism, it seems so accepting and I like that it is such an old religion and has still stuck around!
I really do find people's cultures and beliefs a fascinating topic!

Honestly, it is fascinating...all religions are fascinating to me, how they evolve, how similar some are, the differences. Amazing really that we have such a diverse collection of different beliefs!
I can see how you stumbled across it! I, like you, have an interest in religion and knew a fair bit about a few of the "mainstream" ones. I was christian because my parents were (my dad no longer is - Dawkins convert too hehe) and never really considered that actually, I don't agree with a lot of the christian faith and definately don't agree with most of the bible. Far too barbaric for my liking. I was religious because I was scared not to be and that was stupid really. Listening to the God Dellusion got me thinking about the reasonings behind a lot of religions and made me realise that I didn't fit into any that I knew of. I agreed with a lot of the teachings, but when it came down to "is there a man in the sky" I thought, well no, I don't believe there is (and many of the "mainstream" religions teach this). Then I realised that a lot of people have rejected the "man in the sky" theory, yet still believe the original religion which makes me kind of sad, people feel like they have to part of a religion that they don't fully accept, they pick and choose what fits their lifestyle. I'd rather have no religion that treat my religion like that.
So now, whilst I have an interest in people who truely believe in a god, I'm also interested to learn more about religions that don't focus on this idea of one omnipitant god - like Buddhism. I'll be honest, I really don't know a lot about paganism, but it really fascinates me to understand more! Judaism, christianity and Islamic religions are all so similar, but paganism really is quite different so it's even more fascinating!

AA I agree with this.....the belief that appeals to me the most is that "something" put the energy in, planned exactly how that energy needed to be used then set the ball rolling so to speak. I like the thought that "something" triggered the big bang and had it all planned out like a series of chain reactions and then just left it to run sort of thing. Alot of religions have similar themes which leads me to the impression that perhaps they were based on one belief and just diversified or evolved!
It seems to me that many "newer" religions are monotheistic where as "older" religions are polytheistic.
Whether that proves that religion evolves in one direction, or whether it proves that polytheism is correct as it has been around longest, I don't know, but it's interesting don't you think?
Diversity and open mindedness are two very good things though!

I don't think religion should ever come into politics. Religion is a very personal thing and I think that it should stay that way. Usually, when religion and politics come together, very bad things happen so I think they should be kept apart. It is a shame that some "peaceful" religions should be ruled out of politics but I think it's necessary because of the potentially horrific things other religions mixing with politics can cause. (hope that makes sense?)

Hi JayGee,
I've no plans either as yet, as i'm not sure whether i'll be working :(. As for my path, well i've just started to explore Wicca this past year. I was raised Catholic but never felt right to me. I feel more drawn to nature, so i've been getting into Wicca and I feel such a strong connection, I really feel it's right for me. It might sound weird but it makes me feel peaceful and content.
And your path? If you don't mind me asking either lol x
