The struggle is real @Oldman for sure. Our place looks the way it does because of my wife and I, nobody else.
I finally remembered what happened to my minion / waterfall photo , I removed a number of photos that had under 10 likes . Maybe I will load several photos if I can decide which ones might be worthy .
Don’t worry about likes, there’s some miserable buggers about, but most of us would love to see your pics.
I intend to post pics of my backyard oasis once it’s in full bloom, but the 2 month dry spell has set it back.
Yes, post those pics @WillC and @Oldman I’d love to see them. Nothing wrong with being proud of what you’ve created to enjoy outdoors.
@Oldman I love those types of tree. Next door has a wonderful Acer at the front, it always seems so peaceful and gentle.
@Oldman fabulous pic, i have a red Acer next to my wildflower bee border and i love it. Love the Minion too!
@xman69 That is indeed an oasis and I look forward to seeing it mature to the secluded watering hole you and your wife are tendering and nurturing it towards.
I wonder if @Tenshadesandme did the conversion of imperial to metric when she mentioned her 12 gallon pond.
I only ask because In the Americas, a gallon is equivalent to 128 fluid ounces or 3.785 liters . But in the UK, it’s 160 fluid ounces or 4.546 litres.
@Tenshadesandme also the night watching of the bats would be wonderful in that beautiful back garden of yours hope you get it storm proof before the season.
Assumptions dear the pond is 220 gallons, my aquarium (the larger of the two) is 12 gallons. The nano/fry tank is about 8.
As for conversions, I knew that 1 litre is approximately 4.5 litres. I only know that because a lot of water treatments for ponds and aquariums come with gallon measurements, particularly if they’re from American companies.
I love it for that, many a night of entertaining has been spend bat-watching. It’s a great way to entertain guests, better than movies and popcorn Thankyou, I’ve decided not to go with the parasol idea, helping to reduce storm-damageable things. The pond lilies are coming in well too so hopefully they will help to reduce water evaporation from the pond, which our old, damaged sail shade was installed to try and prevent.
Yesterday I was on our patio , saw a native bee on one of the yellow flowers on the bench cushion , it flew to another and walked around . I was imagining it was thinking " what the hell , no pollen " . Amused me . Last week as I was resting in my zero gravity chair , a humming bird was right behind my head , can not mistake that sound . Heard a number of WW2 aircraft yesterday I would imagine going to one of our Memorial Day celebrations . I bet if more people would put down their phones , take out their ear buds , they to might hear all sorts of interesting sounds .
I have yet to see a bat around this pool, would be cool. I used to see them at a previous home we owned that had a pool. I’ve been considering building a bat box to place towards the back of the property in the tree line. I need them to eat every mosquito within a 2km radius
Thank you @JGood, appreciate the compliment
Not assumptions dear TSAM but I do agree to a lack of knowledge and understanding I just thought it a much shallower pond that it obviously truly is.
If you want to get fancy (and crude, but not that crude), it’s closer to 170 gsllons once you accommodate the shelf. 1 metre cube with a 50cm shelf from one side fo the other, half dozen or so goldfish (they bred!) and clear water. No complaints!
For pond owners after crystal clear water, I use Pure Pond balls from Evolution Aqua once a month. You’re welcome!
@Simon_101 I love what you’ve done with solar power. Ours is entirely solar powered too, save for the string lights that we depend on for secreity because of some little darlings in the area. I’d love to create a solar-powered pond spitter feature but I’m not sure my current pump is strong eniugh, it might be more of a pond dribbler!
@Oldman and @rockstar those look nice. Is that a greenhouse I spy @rockstar. We’d love a greenhouse. Also temps this weekend are supposed to be in the upper 80’s to low 90’’s (Fahrenheit of course ) here so there will definitely be naked time in our pool…
Yes it’s a greenhouse.
It can get chilly overnight here even in Summer so any delicate plants need to be protected.
Your backyard oasis looks great. Wish I had that. Neighbors are too close. Hopping for a hot summer for you to use it. Been a see-saw spring here. 60’s to 80’s then back to 60’s with a lot of rain. Good old New England
@xman69 I have posted photos of our greenhouse in the other photo thread . Wife wanted it , last year she wanted water in it , I made it so . This year she wanted power , I installed it . She is disabled and always plans way more than she can do . So far she spent a half hour in it last year , zero this year .
@Oldman you’re an awesome husband, and I hope your wife can come to enjoy the green house. I do a lot around our place that if it was just me, I wouldn’t do. But, that’s part of being in a successful relationship. We do things for our loved ones that might not normally get done.
