Looking to update my dildo collection for the purpose of pegging where I’m looking for 8 inch plus - but can anyone explain the difference between silicone and non silicone- the only difference I see is price
Pure silicone is more expensive and has many benefits with cleaning and use, while others can have things like latex and other materials in them that are not hypoallergenic.
For pegging I would only use silicone (or glass or metal), not other materials. Medical grade silicone is classed as non-porous, other materials are not, so unless you’re planning to boil them after each use they can harbour bacteria. Generally, not disasterous vaginally as long as well cleaned but a bad idea anally.
The firmness and flexibility can vary a lot between different silicone dildos, I think you’ll have to read reviews to work this out.
I think for what you want, I’d go with this blue one if you don’t mind blue with a 9" insertable length and 6" circumference and not too pricey or this King Cock Elite (my first choice, if you don’t mind vibrations) with 8" insertable length and 7" circumference.
We use this one. It’s big and I sometimes (but not always) need to pre stretch with something a little smaller but its absolutely amazing going in and even better once it’s in there and thrusting.
@batjamboree , you can get both firm and softer flexible in both silicone and PVC, just knowing the material won’t tell you how it feels as the make up of both can vary hugely depending on how they’re made. It really is just reading descriptions and reviews that will help with that. If I want to know more details, I generally search for a review written by a forum member name I recognise and ask by tagging them directly either in What are YOU contemplating purchasing next? or in a separate topic (like this one). When I have done so (and obviously it does rely on there being a regular forum member review) people have been really helpful. I’m sure @rockstar can help with the details of that one, though.
@AJSTAR , generally porous PVC, not great for hygiene. Okay, if you can boil them to sterilise them, though.
That’s a good shout, I’ve queried toys directly with users whi had reviewed them before, it’s been helpful as you can ask more pointed question that were missed in the reviews.
I believe if you read the reviews whilst logged in the web site, more user names come up too, rather than verified purchase instead when not logged in.
@batjamboree your best bet to figure out are any details in the product page (a lot may mention under “How it Feels” section i.e. Flexibility: Flexible or Flexibility: Rigid) or others reviews/experience. LH customer service may be able to give you an idea as well if you contact them inquiring about a specific product’s firmness, as even ‘flexible’ silicone dildos in my experience can vary in how squishy or firm they are.
We personally stick to silicone for just about everything, it is more expensive but typically the safest (besides glass/stainless steel) in terms of no body reaction from sensitivity to the material, non-porous (does not easily harbor bacteria), and easily cleaned/sterilized. Unfortunately because silicone is more expensive it is also much harder to find dildos on the larger end that are silicone.
Looking on LH (UK site as I see you are based in the UK) it does not look like there are any silicone dildos (at least not yet) that fit your criteria. They mostly seem to be PVC. PVC can be better than jelly as it can be firm (jelly is usually soft/squishy), last longer (jelly is considered more temporary as it will degrade over time), and probably cleaned easier. However it is considered porous (harbors bacteria) and some people’s bodies have sensitivity to PVC material and may experience irritation. One option people do is using condoms on less safe materials like PVC dildos to make them safer and reduce the risk of infection from the porous material.
In case any United States based users come across this and are interested in an 8" insertable length silicone dildo that is fantasy but also realistic(ish), the US site has the Hydra available. Not sure if it is squishy or firm silicone though. (Maybe it will make its way to UK site at some point?)
