I recently started usual steps lube gently and very slow and stop if painful damage can be done but relatively safe i personally think
Yep, I have some sounding rods and really like the experience. I did some after a long gap this week.
Cleanliness is vital, the rods need to be really clean and use sterile lube. I prefer steel rods because they are easy to clean and the feel is better. Important not to insert more than is comfortable. Go slowly.
I love the feel of them going in and coming out, and the visuals. You may feel some discomfort peeing for the first time after use. I agree with @bam.jestar , if you are clean and careful it should be safe
