Successful testers

Hey,

Just joined the forum, left some reviews and overall very experimental and eager to try new things, so all boxes ticked. Just like probably thousands of others on here.

This thread is a question of success rates -Likely hood vs outcome

How long have you been doing this and been active in the forum Vs how many testings have you done?

Massive scale from “I’ve done loads of tests over X years of being active” to “ not a sniff, sausage or tickle despite my many contributions and loyalty”

I(we) wanna know…..

The main thing with testing is to not get your hopes up and have patience. There are understandably a lot more volunteers than products available!

Top tips can be found in the The Great Big Review and Testing Guide

I’ve personally been lucky and had quite a lot of testers over the years, having said that, I’ve been around a pretty long time and have bought and reviewed a variety of different products

I’d recommend only putting your name forward for things similar to what you’ve already reviewed rather than something totally random, and keep reviewing and interacting on here :+1:t2:

I’ve been active on here and testing products for 13 years. I don’t review as many testers these days unless it’s something completely different to a product I already own, unless it’s an upgrade.

There doesn’t seem to be a specific number of reviews in order to qualify as a tester. I’d written 15 or so before I got my first tester product to review.

It also depends on the quality of the reviews you write. I normally give very descriptive, specific but very honest reviews.

I tend to get 5 or 6 tester products per year now as I only apply for products which we would tend to use ourselves.

I’d suggest you stay around and contribute because you want to, not with the end goal of a transactional ‘x amount of comments and ‘loyalty’ = more testing opportunities’.

If you do the former then you’ll be happy with any form of the latter, but if you do the latter then I can’t see you sticking around for long.

That’s my honest view.

I’m not too active on the forum as I’ve been single for quite some time but I have had a very varied selection of tester items. I like to think my reviews and feedback are helpful for the team and other people when taking into consideration what toy to choose from.

We have been around for well over ten years on and off, across different accounts. In that time we’ve been selected to test a nice amount of products. Sometimes I’ve gone years between getting selected, but then sometimes I’ve been selected a couple of times in quick succession.

But it’s at a point now where unless there is something really interesting, we don’t throw our hat in the ring just for the sake of it. Our toy bag is already very full from purchased items and testers, I would rather someone else got to have some fun!

Hello! Welcome :).

I’m pretty new here myself but I think the right attitude to have is to see being chosen as a tester as a perk of being in the community, rather than a goal of it. That way you can contribute and learn, if you get a tester it’s great, if not then it’s no biggie.

Personally, I use lovehoney more than any other retailer out there based on the quality and quantity of reviews on the products. You always have a good idea if something is going to be for you, or not, and that’s worth a lot. It’s good to be able to contribute to that too.

Brenna takes a lot of care in choosing specific testers for people who she thinks will enjoy them, it’s not just picking names out of a hat. If you keep writing good quality reviews of the things you have bought then I am certain you’ll be chosen sooner or later.

Hello and welcome,

I’ve been here about a year now and been selected for about five items, including one recently. Also similar to what orhers have said: I’m active on the forum everyday and I put thought into my reviews, I’m also not greedy about my applications. I don’t need 10 PAT toys in my collection, I only have one clitoris

I’ve been here abut 4 or 5 years and have had a great amount of testers. I’ve not had a tester in a good few months, but I only volunteer for the things I really want though.

I buy products myself and review them, its not all about getting free stuff.

I’ve done a fair few over the years but what I usually go for is to put myself forward for things I can add a valued review to. Needless to say I’ve not seen anything this year what has caught my attention to test yet!

I’ve been on here donkey’s years and I’ve been lucky to have tested quite a bit of stuff. I quite enjoy writing reviews.

I would say that I’m more selective about what I volunteer to test nowadays, as I already have a decent collection.

I do enjoy the forum part a lot and will comment if I feel my opinion might be of use to someone. I’m generally lurking on here at some point most days!

I have been here atleast 5 years and i have been lucky to be chosen for maybe 30+ tester products.

Review products you have purchased from lovehoney.

I agree with others, there are thousands of members and only a number of products up for testing.

Definitely volunteer for products you can test and give an honest review. More detail the better.

Patience is definitely advised.

This is such a good point about the reviews actually being beneficial for people looking to purchase. I for one do a tonne of research before making any purchase so I love and really value reading the reviews. It would be disappointing if people were leaving fake or pointless reviews just for the sake of trying to get free testers!!

Joined the forum about six months ago but been a customer since January 2025. Bought loads and left a lot of reviews (well over 20) not always good reviews but you have to be honest. Have not been chosen to test yet but I keep hoping.

Been in the forum for just over 4 years. When I joined we had purchased I think between 5-10 items from LH. I reviewed all of those, as well as a couple same-items purchased elsewhere and had received my first tester item to review within a month.

Since then we’ve received at least a dozen items to review ranging from a Tenga stroker to Romp vibrators to We-Vibe bundles. One of the best was a large Liberator cushion that is amazing.

I’ve always done my best to write pretty detailed and, most importantly, honest reviews. I think that’s generally rewarded but I am a little concerned I may have been blacklisted for reviewing after a rather negative experience led to a 1-star review, but could just bet that I haven’t been the right person for anything that’s come up in the last 7 months!

That’s concerning given I left a two-star review for the bondage suitcase the other day. Hopefully our honesty is appreciated!

I’ve left a couple of low star and less than complementary reviews and I still received other items to test afterwards.

I think honesty is appreciated and as long as the review is well written and you explain why that product didn’t work for you then it shouldn’t affect your chances of testing other items in the future.

Negative reviews dont impact your chance to be chosen. They are honest reviews. If an item is terrible lovehoney wouldnt want unhappy customers because reviews werent honest.

About a year ago i had an item that was pretty much unusable and i would have given it a zero if possible.inwas totally honest about its flaws and issues.

Im still a tester to this day and got an item almost a month ago

I have definitely left very negative reviews for products, I still get picked regularly. As long as you explain what you didn’t like about a product and why it didn’t work for you then you will definitely still be picked for testing. If it’s a certain type of product that you disliked and haven’t got on with other similar ones in the past either, then you might not be picked to test that type of product again as Brenna does try and place items with testers she thinks will like them. An honest, helpful one star review will definitely not blacklist you, though.

To answer the original question, Ive been a forum member a very long time. I started testing when Cazz was running the tester program and Jess was running the forum, took a break from both the forum and testing before Cazz left and while Leanne was running it and came back and started volunteering and being chosen again with Brenna in charge. I couldn’t tell you how many tester items I’ve had, but like others above, these days get far less as I have way too many toys (both testers and purchases) so only volunteer for items I think I’ll really like.
