I have 6 at the moment, longest was an eagle on left upper arm, plenty colour, took about 2hrs, i find them addictive. Am wanting 2 sleeves next.
Agree with Mr.Loverman I've got 26 longest being 3 and half hours on ribs with hurts like hell but still want more at the age of 48 :-)
A good tattooist always takes his time... I have seen monstrosoties done in an hour...

My OH got one done about a week ago, she got to the tattoo parlour for 10am and her tattoo was finished by 6:30pm, detail is immense and the workmanship is superb but I guess good tattoos take time and don't come cheap. She booked this almost 8 months ago and had several consultations with the artist to review and work on different designs before the "big day", a friend used the same tattoo artist for a full sleeve and was told by him to spend 3 months building a scrapbook full of ideas about what types of stuff he likes and would want in the tattoo before drawing up any designs for him. Due to this I don't mind my OH paying that little bit more because obviously this guy is real passionate about his work and doesn't just want to copy from a book. She now has 4 tattoos in total, 3 good ones done at the above mentioned parlour and 1 she had done when she was 17 which she regrets now. Next she is wanting a new piercing which will take her up to 21 in total.

all my tattoos are small ones so havent spent much time in the chair as you say
most of them are where you cant see them as i like my tattoos to be privatei/e,bum,breasts,vagina
most painful one was on my outer vaginal lip,i even cryed when that was put on there
a great tattoo should take longer to plan then it does to actually tattoo, my full sleeve is up to 12 hours and still more to be done.
the one on my ribs only took 2 hours but by far more painful then any part of my arm
I think my longest sitting has been 7 hours on my sleeve :)
the longest i've had was two 3hr sessions on the same piece, was worth it though =)
5 Hours in one sitting for me that was on my thigh. However not half as painful as the 2 hours on the bottom of my stomach/hip bones OUCH
