The Little Thread of Photo and Video tips and tricks

Yep… I get it but it’s also easy to say “use the search”. Sometimes my terminology doesn’t match with the search engine or differences in language but other times I never thought to actually search something assuming it was obscure and wasn’t already posted.

Example: If I had questions about bi-sexuality I would certainly search the topic and read through all the posts. If I had one nipple larger than the other or a third nipple, I wouldn’t likely search the topic and just start a new thread given it’s more obscure.

I missed the mark on this one but all good.

@Oldman … you trumped me by 2 years. I never thought to search this topic so my post should bump it back up. I too date back to the days of cameras requiring a film cartridge, Polaroids, and then digital cameras. These days it’s mostly phones on a selfie stick with little effort being put into the actual image. What my British grandparents used to refer as “snaps”. I am going to read through all this a couple more times to see if I can add anything. I was a professional photographer for about 10 years but specialized in architecture and equestrian. No boudoir photographer for sure.

Raw Post editing is the fun part. But it’s not for everyone so this is where phones come in handy. All you need to do is point and shoot. I still use film cameras and Polaroids, depending on what I’m after.

Most people want to take a quick picture without all the hassle. Years ago I did write a pdf book for someone on camera lighting and getting the right picture for your needs etc…

I don’t shoot film anymore other than the rare 4x6 plates on a bellows camera. If I want to do “photography” it’s on a digital camera these days. If I just want to record an image, then it’s a phone camera. Digging into my archives this week and will share a couple of fav photos from years past taken with a camera and auxiliary lighting rather than a phone and direct flash. Noticeable difference!

The photos in my first post in the lingerie uploads thread a year ago were taken on a phone. I’d never tried taking a photo of myself undressed and I’m very ignorant of photography, but I was inspired by some very good photos from other posters.

My snaps weren’t too bad, but I’ve never liked how I seemed to appear in phone photos. It didn’t look like me, which I guessed might be due in part to distortion from the tiny lens.

I’m fortunate that I was able to get an entry-level DSLR and a prime lens, which has let me take pictures that I feel are much more representative of me. It’s been pretty fun and I’ve learned a lot in a short time, but I don’t think the learning ever stops where something like photography is concerned.

Absolutely correct. Some “snaps” can be awesome, often they just record the scene. Also, I may be very good at photographing a building with very expensive equipment but it doesn’t mean I can take a department store worthy portrait either. It’s one of things where you can always learn more if interested in doing so… or… it can be as simple as “here’s my bits, enjoy.”

I think with Android you can say either Shoot or Cheese.

Yeah, once you’ve got the voice commands turned on you can say smile, cheese, shoot or capture to take a photo. Then theres record or record video, in the video function.

Still working with a lens 5mm or usually less compared to a full on camera lens. @Oldman will know what I am talking about here.

As a pensioner I have resisted getting Photoshop , however I have found primitive ways to do a bit more that standard touchups . I will link a photo I did quick and dirty for my wife , at first glance she was mad I was dressed like that in somebody’s garden . It was too fun and I have another photo I am thinking of doin another , Keep in mind that this is just a phone photo added to a photo . https://lovehoneyforum.com/t/images-to-share-in-topics/259586/511

Not sure if this is the right forum for this question - i have some old video tapes that we made about 15 years ago. These are on Hi8 camcorders. Is there a good app or programme that i can use to enhance the footage? i have tried searching and ive downloaded some recommended ones but none seem to alter the quality at all. It may be because they are free ones and i have to start looking to spend a bit?
Im not expecting full 4k quality but it would be nice to improve them a bit!!

If it’s something special I would get a professional to do it unless you know what you are doing.

I bought a digital converter quite a few years ago and if I recall , it was a whole lot of work . And Hi-8 were 440 lines per inch I believe and even for a short video it took a whole lot of hard drive to process . I only burned maybe 4 or 5 videos to CD or DVD . I keep thinking I will be in a position to send them ( here in the US ) to a reputable company and have them burn a bunch to DVD . However all my Hi-8 videos are family and travel videos , no home made porn . The costs per video were rather high last time I checked .

Enhancing video is difficult. If the data wasn’t there to begin with it’s really hard to add it in retrospectively!

I’ve done a bit of editing of older home videos from early digital cameras (like 2 MP) and there’s not a whole lot you can do to improve the quality of a video of the resolution isn’t there to start. What you can do is punch up the brightness and contrast and add filters to remove noise artifacts, etc. Where I’m at there are still a couple local companies that specialize in digitizing home media into more accessible/shareable/preservative formats.

The one exception, I suppose, is if you have an in to meet with Peter Jackson - I suppose his firm and their magic AI algorithms could probably punch up just about anything into a reasonable quality product!

Yes thats all ive managed to do. adjusting brightness etc has helped a little. Maybe i will wait for that Peter Jackson meeting or another 20 years and maybe he might start selling the technology!!
