@steve19 Have you got a spy in my brain? We love that area and would love to move there, if my husband could get a suitable job.

@Mrs.John We were meant to be going there with a couple of friends last year, which obviously never happened. Can’t wait to go.

@Mrs.John a few years ago we were on a weekend break at the end of Oct, we took the steam train to Whitby. I had heard of the goth weekend but was surprised with all the steam punk people. Loved the outfits though.

@KinkyMira no spy, it was that you mentioned North Yorkshire in a previous post and I just picked 2 places on that bit of coast.

I’ve come to The Lounge for a bit of comfort this evening. God knows where my ridiculous fear of spiders stemmed from but tonight it’s bad. Walked into my bedroom earlier and there was a pretty large house spider just chilling on my wardrobe. I yelped a little, stood back, gathered myself a little and walked back out :joy: Returned no more than 2 minutes later to check it was still there and attempt to get it out but it had disappeared. I stood on my bed (why did I deem this a safe place ) looking in the direction of my wardrobe. Turned round and out the corner of my eye it ran across my feet and under my pillow, the total opposite side of the room it was originally on. I screamed, ran out the room and phoned my boyfriend who happens to be on his first day of isolation with work before going away so can’t come home.

It’s such a ridiculous fear when you think about it, but I’m genuinely going to sleep on the sofa tonight and have already asked my sister over tomorrow morning to help me locate it and remove it.

Ugh, why :weary:

Oh no! That sounds horrific @For_Your_Eyes_Only_x :grimacing: I hate spiders, I can deal with them if I really have to but I’d have had exactly the same response as you. Logically they have far more reason to be scared of us than we have for being scared of them, not that it helps! I hope you sleep OK and find it tomorrow :hugs:

@For_Your_Eyes_Only_x I Hope you manage some sleep and find the spider tomorrow. We can’t help what we’re afraid of. I’m afraid of cats and it horrifies cat lovers but I can’t help it. Try and sleep chic

@Kitty-Cat01 @Littleblondechick thank you both. Crazy how the mind works and responds differently to different things. Both of your words are very calming x

Spider update :joy:: FaceTimed my boyfriend and he encouraged me to go upstairs and look for it for peace of mind. It had made its way to the opposite side of the house and was chilling in the back bedroom which luckily atm is relatively empty. It ran (very very fast if I do say so ) across the room so I slammed the door and jammed a towel across the bottom in a bid to contain it until tomorrow. I’m hoping it’s the same one as earlier and not just a different one (surely I wouldn’t see 2 within the same hour having not seen any at all this year…). I managed to pull my pillows, cushions and duvet off my bed and shake them off but still not brave enough to sleep in it :woman_facepalming:t3:

We shall start again tomorrow!

I’m completely with you on this. I despise them SO much and can’t settle until its gone even though I know its completely irrational. Makes me feel all itchy and on edge even after I’ve got rid :joy:

You are completely wrong! They are sooooo much better than humans

…spiders are an exception though, terrifying, completely with you @For_Your_Eyes_Only_x

ETA This rabbit is great. Surely you can see how it is a beneficial addition to a household @Melody1 :joy:

I feel for you @For_Your_Eyes_Only_x! I really do! I hate them too.

I’m a lot better than I used to be with little ones, but big ones? No way!

At one point my friend and I shared a flat, but he was away with work for a few weeks and a big spider was in my room in the flat. I couldn’t relax or sleep or do anything shudders but I had to get rid.

Was gingerly picking stuff up with fingertips and flinging it far away once it had been shaken and checked.

If it helps, aerosols seem to incapacitate them and it means you don’t have to get too close until they’re immobile and it makes the house smell nice!

This was about 15 years ago and I still recall the sheer terror!

Don’t feel bad about being scared of them @For_Your_Eyes_Only_x . Fear of Spiders, like our fear or deep water, snakes, falling and the dark (besides others) are baked into us at a genetic level im afraid. Not everyone gets it, but thats why there all so common. Comes from a long time ago in our species history when we where prey to other stuff (thus fear of the dark…or more accurately, stuff lurking in the dark).
So dont worry about it being stupid. It used to be a really useful thing at one point in our genetic history, (and still is if you live somewhere like Australia).
