Unable to cum - sertraline

I have been taking sertraline since 8th Jan for anxiety. I have read that a side effect is a change of libido but whilst my libido is there, I am totally unable to cum. Has anyone else had this with this drug?

Hi nutella! I would suggest you contact the doctor that prescribed it to you and talk to them about it.

When I was taking sertraline I had decreased libido (which is a common side effect) but when I was in the mood I could cum as usual. I mentioned it to my dr, he said it was normal and we didn't make any changes. In my case that was a very small price to pay since the medicine made me feel way less suicidal. After 5-6 months on that medication my libido was back to normal.

However, I understand that it can be frustrating either way. So, since it affects you enough to seek answers, I think that you should contact your dr. =) Best of luck!

I'm on sertraline and also found it more difficult to orgasm for the first couple of months. I feel for me it was more to do with head than physical (although I did have some reduced libido) It was almost like medication meant I was unwell and that meant I shouldn't be enjoying something like that (absolutely not true) I think your Dr may say stick with it a bit longer but if you feel it's not improving talk to them again and they can try something different but from what I've sertraline is one of the better ones for not effecting libido.

I’ve been on Sertaline for well over a year now for depression and anxiety but never had problems with cumming although I did notice my libido did go down.. What dosage are you on?

I do not have experience with Zoloft but I was on another SSRI, celexa. While one celexa I was unable to reach orgasm and then experienced numbness of my genitalia, look up Post-SSRI sexual dysfunction (PSSD). It was one of the most frustrating things I have experienced. My doctor and I came up with a plan to taper off and switch to Wellbutrin and an as needed medication for anxiety. Whatever you do make sure you talk to your doctor and follow the plan your physician puts in place. With that being said be make sure you advocate for yourself, only you know what what you are experiencing. Depression and anxiety are horrible but there is a way out and you’ll get there!

I was prescribed Sertraline, it had a very similar effect on me, labido seemed the same but climaxes were difficult to reach. Once I had stopped taking it I kind of got back to normal, I still tend to last longer now than previously. Definitely talk to your GP.

I have been on sertraline for 3 years now, and have not noticed it affecting my ability to cum. The drug has worked wonders for me, but I was told that if there were any side effects I couldn’t live with, to try a different drug. Would recommend speaking to the dr again.

Hi, this is a known side effect of the Sertraline and other SSRI antidepressants . It is worth going back to the GP to discuss this, and looking at other medication for managing anxiety. This could be another antidepressant, from the same group of SSRI antidepressants or another type of antidepressant. There are also other medications to treat anxiety which you can ask about. As well as this, you can try and use other methods of dealing with your anxiety. The GP should be able to refer you to anxiety management/stress control so that you can find ways of over coming the anxiety so that you do not need the medication, or are able to reduce the dose. I would not just leave it, as you will eventually get fed up of the side effect and that will impact on you in another way, and also your relationship. It gets frustrating when you are in the medications long term and this is a side effect. Good Luck with your anxiety.

Not Sertraline, but every SSRI I've tried has messed up my orgasms.

It's literally a crying shame as I'm so much better on them but I don't want to give up the pleasure of my sex life.

Any ladies using anti-depressants and have/had (they killed my PMT dead - a fab side effect, especially for OH) might like to look into vitamin B6 and Agnus Castus. These two, but especially AC have really helped anxiety that I think is related to my hormones.

My wife takes 150mg sertraline, when she started this medication she had the same issue, that's now all passed now and she can climax as usual (unless she has been acting for the last 2 years) Since she started taking it though on occasion she will be so wet she can't cum we think that is down to her medication too. Hope this helps..

Hi yes this tablet can have a effect on cumming and having sex. After taking it for a while it can start to ware of but if you still have the issues best to talk to ur doctor but most tablets for the is will have the same affect

I had a similar experience with Sertraline. Took ages to climax, I'm not on it anymore, back to usual now.

Ask your GP about Vortioxetine. Studies show improvement in sexual satisfaction compared to traditional antidepressant So far I have got to say that reduced SSRI in my body seems to have heightened both my libido and hardness. I think it is too early to credit the new drug with it. I have had to reduce Venlafaxine very, very gradually to zero before starting this modern drug. So pleased I mentioned my ED struggles to GP and. Psychiatrist Difficult talking to GP at best but has led to two -headed approach,-medication for both ED and depression. It's early days but I have good reason for hope again. I'm happy to let you know how I get on if that would be of any interest? I hope this helps guy facing similar experiences or partner trying to reassure and support....

Thanks for this thread , I'm on it too , it has destroyed my sex drive , and I rarely "cum" . I find it so difficult . We rarey have sex now . I get turned on ,when my wife is naked , but only at that point . I worry about what my wife thinks ,and does she blame herself ? It's not her fault , it's me , but how do I convince her ? On the pus side , I am no longer suicidal , and am much calmer now , maybe it's the price I have to pay ?

They're wonderful drugs when you're on the right one. Prozac saved my life, but did kill my sex life. It did cause many problems between myself and my ex but he was a total arse and made my life unpleasant enough that I needed the Prozac in the first place, so it was another good thing for me.

Have you talked to your wife and explained that it's a known side-effect?

Headless has suggested a different drug, but if what you're on is working and you can work things out with your wife - massages, doing a bit extra housework etc., I'd be reluctant to mess around with it at the moment. I tried quite a few due to side effects but in the end, Prozac won out. I'd imagine your wife is feeling much better knowing you're no longer suicidal and if you're calmer you're probably nicer to live with - I was.

I've spoke to y wife about it , she is understanding . Trouble is , I think , that the less sex you have , the less you want . It's a viscous circle . We still love each other , and do plenty of cuddling , but I'm just not bothered by sex anymore . It's at the stage ,where the thought of it is begining to repulse me . I even look at the models on here , who are clearly stunning , but they just don't interest me in "that" way . I used to have a huge sex drive , I wanted it all the time , (one of the reasons my ex divorced me ) , once was never enough , I could have done it all night . now tho , it's a distant memory . maybe it's just middle age :-(
