Hi, I’m just wondering if anyone else has had royal mail put a card through their door saying the sender didn’t pay the full postage.
I’m trying to work out if it’s a scam or not, and if it’s not is it for my lovehoney order or something else from ebay (as i want the lovehoney stuff but I’ll just try to get a refund on the ebay thing)
Not aware of scam on that basis, usually via email or text. I would recommend looking up contact details for local sorting office and call them direct. Do not use details on the card as if it is a scam it will contact you to the scammer. Good luck, hope there is a nice parcel waiting for you!
This is quite common - sender forgot to put a stamp on or put on the wrong amount. It definitely wouldn’t apply to a LH order though - that’s all done by machine at the depot: I can’t imagine they’d make that kind of error.
Most likely a friend of yours has sent you something and got the postage wrong, that’s all. You’ll have to pay up the difference (plus a wee bit more, i think) to get it delivered.
The texts are usually a scam, but I think the cards are real as they ask you to go to the sorting office to pay? I’ve had it before when stamps are left off cards and stuff
If it’s definitely not lovehoney i honestly might just let it get returned, the only other thing I’m expecting is an ebay thing that cost less than they’re asking for the postage
Is it a proper Royal Mail card that was put in your letterbox as I know there was some scam going about in our area a few months back. The best thing to do if you think it could be real is go down to your local Royal Mail sorting office where the package is being held and ask them if it’s real or fake.
Last year I bought some earrings from eBay and I paid postage but the seller didn’t pay the postage so I got a card through and I was fuming and contacted the seller. The seller never got back to me so I reported them and got them taken down. If it’s for Lovehoney I’m not sure. I’d say go to your post office and ask them if the card looks legit.
At this point I’m relatively sure it is legitimate and i know what it’s for. It’s for something on ebay and honestly I’m not going to pay it, they want £1.50 which genuinely triples the price of something i no longer need or want so I’m going to try and get a refund and let it get sent back
£1.50 is the standard rate for a shortfall in postage, I know this because we have it a lot in work.
Pre covid postman would have brought the letter/parcel and collected payment at the door but now they will just post the card through your door for you to pay online and the letter/parcel will come a day or two later.
We had it at Christmas where a relative had sent cards but had underpaid on the stamp so we had to pay £1.50 for the privilege of receiving the cards!
If you don’t pay it will get returned to sender or destroyed (if no return details on outer packaging).
Are you certain you know what it is for? Glad to read that you are not going to pay it.
Here is how the scam works-
They-The scammers-Will send out a card which states that you have a parcel for collection but you need to pay £1.50 for unpaid postage. The card may look genuine, it could be in the form of Amazon or another big delivery company. There will be an internet website address on the card asking you to go online to pay the postage.
The website you find-A website designed by the scammers-will ask for your card and bank details in order to pay the £1.50. You may think that going to all that effort for £1.50 is not worth the effort, well they are not interested in that amount what they want is your bank details, once they have that they can they do all sorts.
I would always advise that if you do receive such a card, even though you maybe awaiting a delivery, always contact the company you purchased from directly to inquire about the delivery.
With online shopping so popular now, these types of scams are increasing, purely because the chances are the person they send the card to is awaiting a delivery.
Being in Canada I have had to pay customs and duty (taxes) on orders. It seems hit or miss as the last order did not need any additional payment, but my first ever order did.
It was substantial too at an additional $20 CDN just to release the card. But this last time there was no additional fees…
I think it depends where it comes from as I think there are warehouses in the US. However, it did show on all previous orders that the items are coming from the UK, so not sure why the change. Either way, my package showed up at the office on Tuesday and the receptionist opened it by accident… I think she looks at me differently now… I’m not sure if she is appalled or turned on by my purchases…LOL
Well, it left Gblala, UK, went to Richmond British Columbia Canada, then Burnaby, then to Calgary for delivery. Left the 16th of June and was delivered yesterday.
My previous one took the same route. Looking at the tester webpage, there is no mention of items being in Canada, only the US, which when we order something from the US it usually takes longer than from the UK.
Nope @Ian_Chimp I haven’t had the pleasure of being chosen as a tester yet. I guess this one was a pleasant surprise at no additional costs for import. Win for us…
