When I use to wear them I would check in a mirror before heading out just a quick look bending over, depending on what kind of trousers you are wearing,you can stop it showing by having tighter trousers over you waist. Jeans is perfect.
But I wouldn’t really worry about it as it’s just underwear.

or with jeans and I always wear a belt but sometimes a wear shorts with no string on so who knows if people have seen maybe that’s a little spontaneous if it’s on show a little

I really like them and my boyfriend has preferred to wear them for a good few years now. They are comfortable and practical (according to him) and most of the time he wears a thong for underwear.

I think it is perfectly “normal” for younger guys, or any ages , to wear thongs.
Anything that looks good, or feels good. Cannot be a bad thing. As with any lingerie, there are many styles, I think what worries many is the back. Frankly, wear what you want, if any sex looks good in thongs is a bonus. Young good looking guys, with a “package” that fits and a nice tight ass. Extra bonus

I think younger guys would be more open to trying them and more men wear them than would be expected. Since my boyfriend, who is 23, wears them I have been surprised to see how many brands and types are available.
