I want to start getting my health better, I’m probably not eating enough vegetables, so I want to try vegetable drinks you know the pure green looking drinks, but not sure where you buy them? Silly me thought going into the local supermarket and seeing V8 Vegetable juice was that easy the name suggests it is but it’s only 10% vegetables
You could get a juicer and make your own, that way you know what is going into it, and it would probably be much cheaper for you too.
I could do with eating more veggies myself.
@JoCat Yes that’s a good idea a tried that once and completely lost interest in doing it, so i thought buying it first would get me into it, making me want to do it myself
That is much smarter than my suggestion lol
@JoCat is absolutely right. Make your own.
They’ll be far healthier, not loaded with sugars and preservatives and you’ll know exactly what’s in it.
There are plenty of recipes available depending on whether you want a fruit or veg drink.
I tend to mix both when I make them.
This is one of my favourites:
Spinach
Kale
Slice of lemon
Whole apple quartered
Small chunk of fresh ginger (peeled)
Water
Blend it fully and enjoy.
Play around with proportions and different content until it tastes how you like it.
Don’t be tempted by expensive blenders unless you’ve already got one. A cheaper model will be just as effective but get one that blends the entire fruit or veg rather than leaving the healthy fibre content stuck to a mesh filter!
There are greens and reds drink powders available here (in US). They are an acquired taste, some greens are better than others. The reds taste better to me, it just depends upon the ingredients you are looking to improve your intake of. The powders are easy to take on the go, put a scoop of the powder in a shaker bottle add water later when you are ready to drink it.
I have a low speed masticating juicer, the higher speed ones get hot and tend to have a negative affect on the vitamin content of the juice. It is good to know exactly what’s in there but it does take a great volume of veggies to make a few ounces of juice, plus there is lots of cast off from the veg that I mostly just tossed out but the carrot remnants I would use as a salad topper.
cheers to your health.
We probably chuck out a lot of the vegetable that can be used, when we trim it.
@GoGirl12 I have tried all the supermarkets they don’t seem to have them. I shall have to see what health food shops we have here.
@Joe_90 Thanks for the ingredients but i know me i just will give up on the idea.
Don’t see it as a chore but just make it part of your daily routine. It takes no more than 5 mins once a day
Sone of the Innocent smoothies and juice are £2.50 in Tesco with a clubcard. That sounds expensive but its 750mls and its £4.30 without the clubcard Tesco have their own version too thats £1.75 for 750mls. Its worth a try to see if you’ll stick with it!
@JoCat Thanks, I shall definitely look at that thanks, that’s exactly what i want to do so i will then get a thing for it and hopefully stick with it.
They have loads of flavours online so if you’ve got a big enough store near you you should have enough variety to keep it interesting and the ingredient list is good too.
@JoCat Thanks i knew my lovehoney family wouldn’t let me down
I became ill over Xmas and my body just hasn’t recovered, so i need to get some goodness in me
I hear ya! I’ve been lethargic all week and haven’t cooked anything of substance. I’m planning to go for a walk tomorrow and purposely will be going by tesco and I’m going to get some of those drunks to try. I’ll also be getting whiskey too mind, just incase my body throws a tantrum
I hope you’re feeling a bit better now.
@teacake is cider not classed as a vegetable drink (more of a fruit drink I guess ) good luck tea cake to get back to finding a good solution to your veg drink
Thanks i think alot of people came down with this illness over xmas. Hopefully you will get some energy from your walk and the whisky if the whisky doesn’t help those healthy drinks are worth a shot
I have also ditched some medication that I have been on for years so my body is having a bit of a shock to the system, probably wasn’t a good idea to ditch them while I’m still recovering.
Or maybe it was the best time, when you were already feeling a bit rubbish. Obvs depending on the tablets of course.
@Gazza_64 Thanks hopefully i will bw my old self soon, Cider i definitely haven’t had that for a long time i remember cycling to a farm to get that.
@teacake lol get fit to get pissed ! I am sure you will sort it out and I hope you feel you’re magnificent self very soon mate
You are all very good people. I tried an innocent smoothy once, we did not get on so I’m sticking with salad
