Raises hand here.

Even being a male, I have for a long time, as in decades. Not sure why. Kinda like it if I’m being honest. It feels “good” to me.

I know I/we shouldn’t do them too often or too intensely though as that causes issues that I/we don’t want.

 Yes it does!

We know folks joke and call a penis the love muscle and then they tell us there isn’t a muscle in the penis.

Well, there is kind of one there, but it’s at the base, the bottom by the perineum and not really inside the penis.

It’s called the “bulbocavernosus muscle”.

Oh, guess what doing kegels targets in men?

Yep, the Bulbocavernous muscle itself.

“Like any muscle, the bulbocavernosus can lose tone, leading to urinary incontinence, weak ejaculation, or erectile dysfunction. Kegel exercises target this muscle directly. You can isolate it by attempting to stop the flow of urine or clenching as if to stop passing gas.”

“To perform Kegels, contract the muscle for 3 seconds, release, and repeat 3 to 5 times.”

You are correct sir!

Though long ago I had no idea about the how or why.

Once I began going to therapy during and after my divorce, that led to me to begin seeing doctors and then more doctors and yet more.

No, I’m not a doctor, not even close, but I went down rabbit holes with things like this.

Why? The first question I told my first therapist (while still married as our divorce wasn’t finalized yet) was that I wanted to know why I was in the boat I found myself in then. I wanted to know how my life ended up the way it had.

I’ll leave out the details but that led to my childhood, all the abuse I went through, to finding out my ex-wife abused me but I honestly didn’t know she was as I wasn’t aware of so much of what she did was actually abuse.

Other discussions with a therapist led me to begin seeing a doctor and I’ll keep the details out again but it had to do with the injury to my perineum long before when cutting trees on our wooded land. That caused real issues for me though I was never able to tie it to that injury, but seeing doctors brought that out into the open for me.

So with all those things, going through the divorce, then moving out and living on my own, I threw myself into the therapy, into finding out why I was the way I was in my life, in all ways, from my childhood, the abuse, why I acted and responded and didn’t respond to things. And I also began wanting to know how and why I had the changes I did from that perineum injury.

Anyway, long way to say that’s when I found out about things like the “bulbocavernosus muscle”, among other things.

If ejaculations get better, more powerful, that’s great. I don’t ejaculate any more after prostate surgery, but I know the muscles contract the same anyway. And if the work gives me stronger orgasms that’s as good as it will get. I know if I do the kegels with an erection, my penis gets visibly larger and the head flares out a lot. When I was with my ex wife, and she was giving me oral, she loved it when that happened, right before I orgasmed. She would make little Mmmmmmmm, sounds to show her appreciation.

I have been doing them for years and I am really good at them. I have kegel balls and stuff to use too. It makes orgasm easier and better definitely. I’ve gotten to the point where just doing kegel exercises feels really amazing.

Not sure what you found when you read so sorry to chime in but here is the easiest way to figure out what it is to do.

"Yes, stopping the flow of pee uses the same muscles as doing Kegels "

So, stand and pee and then stop the flow of your pee at the toilet. If you do that, THAT is what you need to do, when not peeing of course:)

Quietly adds kegel exercises to my daily fitness programme

But seriously, yes, when I remember :joy:

It’s one of those things that I know I should do, and know how to do, and enjoy doing (like my sex drive really needed the boost!), but don’t always remember to do. Between blog work, housework, pet care, family duties, basic personal hygiene, “have I given my pelvic floor muscles a workout today?” tends to fall by the wayside. Like I say, I know how to, I just don’t always remember to.

And yes, I will admit that sometimes I’ll engage them if I realise my partner is trying to hold back. If they can make me come, it’s only fair :smiling_face_with_horns:

Make working out work for you, seriously. I used to hate working out too; I have balance issues (cerebellar ataxia) so getting down and up off the floor often made me feel queasy, I also used to find dedlicating a 30-minute chunk of my day to exercise to be highly inconvenient at best. So I had to make fitness work for me.

One of the first things was to break my daily 30 minutes up into more manageable chunks: one five-minute of marching in place in the morning (get that circulation pumping!), a fifteen-minute, two-rep resistance band programme in the afternoon, and ten minutes of dancing about like an idiot in my bedroom before my husband gats home from work. Three songs, and I’ve hit my goal for the day

The other things to remember is that moderate housework absolutely counts towards activity, and it’s always better to have done something than nothing at all :slightly_smiling_face:

This was how I learned to do them too, and perhaps, why I should do them more often.

I have mild spina bifida occulta, or “hidden” spina bifida — the bone didn’t quite fuse over probably in part of my lower back, and as a result part of my back is more sensitive to pressure, and urinary incontinence can be something I experience. To help allay that, I should do kegels more often.

Now, I do remember going to the urology department once and having quite a degrading day of lots of water, uroflowmetry and ultasound scans after every pee I had - as well as having to wear a special sensor that detects moisture and sounds an alarm if it detects leakage between bathroom breaks - only for them to decide that urinary incontinence wasn’t currently an issue for me. That doesn’t mean I’m out of the woods, however, and it’s something that may be a sign that my back is deteriorating (along with things like frequent backaches, sciatica etc) should it suddenly become an issue for me. In the mean time, kegel exercises can help bridge the distance between a well managed condition, and wetting myself in the middle of Tesco.

I don’t know if you have tried it before, but doing pelvic floor exercises while having kegal balls is can add to that enjoyment of exercise and housework

While we men can do the same, using the same toys @HermanHuge @paulsballs @Latestr8 or using a male alternative which is slightly more expensive

Not doing housework, but I have worn kegel balls to the pub more than once

Can also be done while sitting on the throne, and is an excellent guide to the strength of your muscles to show frequently you can stop the flow and how fast it stops or if the muscle gets tired quickly

Also less messy if your penis jerks upwards as yku engage the muscles

Is that the same muscles, as sitting on a tennis ball that Wood Nymph advised me to try that helps her hubby ?
