Why do we enjoy pain?

Ughhh…whatever..

My point exactly :joy:

That’s not a point it’s a reaction.

I like sensations just on the edge of pain…so discomfort you could say

I find I react differently to different sensations.

Sharp pain (spanking, pinwheels): “fuck off with that”
Deeper pain (flogging): “please do not stop”
Pressure: “I shouldn’t like it but I kinda do”
Ice: “okay, this has gone far enough. I promise I’ll behave… for five seconds”

For some reason I have never had any interest in pain for pleasure , maybe because I have had so much pain from my broken body parts . My wife has less than zero desire for extra pain , she has been a chronic pain patient for over 23 years and is on the maximum load of the most potent pain killers available . The last thing I threw away was an e-stim cock cage with urethra insert . It felt OK on lower settings , not great . By the time it was just starting to work it was way less than pleasant , and the pain continued for some time after use .

Think it’s because of the release of endorphins etc so mild to moderate pain can be pleasurable, same as exercise can make you feel good cos of the endorphins/hormones released.

I have causalgia so I do get chronic pain, both literally and figuratively. Sometimes pain for me can be a break from the pain - a flogging will distract me from the pain in my broken parts. I’m not on anything prescribed because some of them can have horrendous side effects, but I take Neuromol regularly and I’ve been through a Pain Management Programme so I know how to pace myself etc. I have gizmos and gadgets aplenty too, and both of my partners would stop me if they knew I was likely to hurt myself trying.

I just have to tell my partners not to touch my ouchy parts if they value their teeth. I have allodynia (skin sensitivity) in the affected areas which can be… fun, to say the least.

That definitely works for me. As a CRPS-suffering masochist, sometimes my family have to check in with me whether it’s “good pain or bad pain” - good pain that I enjoy (I love DOMS [Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness] too and often joke that it’s the only one that can make me suffer :joy:) or “bad pain” from a CRPS flare-up.

Maybe that’s what it is with me! I get chronic pain. I’m on various meds but they only help to a certain degree

My last flare was Trigeminal Neuralgia which is not much fun, but I get what @Tenshadesandme said about diversionary pain, pumping my glans to the point of pain does indeed give some relief from the TN.

That’s what I found; the side effects of taking them were sometimes worse than the pain itself. I find supportive therapies (splints, aids etc) better than prescription pain relief, but I’m not sure what’s available for TN.

I’m sorry, I shouldn’t laugh. That wasn’t quite what I meant but I’m glad it works for you! :joy:

No tn is horrendous. I’ve had it for years now!

I’m on carbamazepine. It certainly helps since I increased the dose

I don’t think that was one that was ever offered to me. I used to take diclofenac sodium 80mcg up to three times daily with codrydramol (forgotten the dosage) up two tablets up to four times daily. I was like a zombie - pain free, but I wet myself twice because my brain didn’t tell my legs we needed to pee.

I was on Tegretol too, put me on a sodium channel blocker now

It’s usually the first one they offer! Also known as tegretol
