How about gratuitous? That fits too, it was clunky and gratuitous.
I also like to try and ensure I use the word "moist" at least once every day, ever since some dickhead sacked me from a gig for using it.

Because as an active member of one of the world's most populated religions, he took it upon himself to make the sexist assumption without checking with me that my reference to the rainy weather was actually an attempt to make a pass at him. At least, that's what he said.
What actually happened was he asked me over the phone how I was, and I said "Moist, thank you" because it was raining. How he interpreted a pass out of that is beyond me.
