Hi Paddie. the fear of poop is completely understandable but the risk is far lower than you think. Getting graphic here but your spinchter and bum is just the canal the poop comes out of, it sits up there in the colon the rest of the time. Your anal canal is actually quite clean and its very low risk unless you have had a bad stomach or something else like that (whereas give it a miss then until you feel better)
My OH was exactly the same as you and we have just starting using a plug a few times and it has always come out clean without and douching or internal cleaning and its not smelly.
