Panic buying is nothing new to Britain and shouldn’t be a surprise. Goes back at least as far as WW1 when the prospect of war was in the papers, people were stockpiling supplies. Just looks few years back when there was a petrol shortage and folk were filling Gerry cans etc. It’s funny because nobody on social media is doing it apparently, so who is then![]()
Just read that anyone over the age of 45 should be or could be asked to self isolate with uni students being asked to do the same no one will be out I want to know who will take my kids to school lol you gotta laff omg
As long as i get paid, i’m ok with that, although i can’t see it happening!
I know it’s laffable
Where does it all end though seriously?! Some of the restrictions are completely baffling, granted I’m no brain of Britain but seriously! Yesterday we met up with my wifes parents half way between (they are around 2 hours away). So we met up and had lunch and spent the day together so they could see their grandson. That is allowed, yet we can’t stay with them?!
It’s a Barnard’s Castle thing. Stay at home. Unless you want to go out.
There are a lot of contradictions and things that make no sense, especially the different rules for Scotland, England ans Wales. I think people would be much happier doing their bit if things were not contradictory and actually made sense.
It’s quite frustrating and very politically motivated sadly. My home city Aberdeen was put into a regional lockdown and very badly portrayed by the press and giving a stern talking down by our first minister (although she talks down to everyone in my opinion) yet Glasgow was never locked down when it’s always had a steady rise in cases since restrictions eased. The Aberdeen cluster cleared after a 3 week lockdown! Now the whole of Scotland has to suffer because of a political stance!
Yes, Wolverhampton has a regional one too, fortunately it doesn’t affect me, although my wife works in the city and it’s business as usual workwise, so i can’t see the point!
Just as well I’m not in charge, people would just be told, please yourselves you all know the risks![]()
I’m not sure everyone does know the risks? Or the knock-on effects if they choose to be a bit more liberal with their interpretation of the guidance.
There are some obvious plonkers, but I think most people are torn between the contradictory advice we’ve been getting.
7 months down the line, i would hope people know the risks! Then i see the protests in London yesterday. ![]()
Im glad you’re confident in your interpretation.
Perhaps we should get you on the Boris podium to explain it to the rest of us. ![]()

I think this is because you are more likely to all get ill if one of you has it if you stay together.
They are still thinking about how many sick people they can cope with.
Also - meeting outdoors is likely to be safer than staying in a house together. I know it isn’t easy for extended families.
Except that some people just feel entitled to carry on with their lives, not recognising that personal freedom comes with collective responsibility.
A person could be asymptomatic or just have a light reaction to this virus, yet spread it to others who might be worse hit. I don’t think we understand how the virus works, yet. So best to look after each other.
We as a family have stuck to the restrictions mostly because of my wife. I admit I’m very sceptical about the whole thing. Theres no consistency between the 4 countries rules. The people of Scotland are being used as pawns in a political popularity contest. Make no mistake the second this is over the independence drum will be banging again louder than ever with the “look how well we coped with covid” chant singing in the background.
