The Great Pub Quiz Game Thread

Not a bad effort. I still don’t understand 5. And I got 3 right the first read through, assumed that was the trap, and then fell into the trap on the second reading. :slightly_smiling_face:

Mrs Chimp got number 6. It’s made me wonder why she’s left me to do all the finances all this time, as I am thick as :pig2::poop: :slightly_smiling_face:

The amount I spend on here, clearly finances is not my strong point. I get the gist of what he’s saying in his explanation to 6 but I still want there to be an exact answer :woman_shrugging:t2:

Ahhh I got 4/6. I really reaaaaally don’t understand the answer to question 6. I’ve tried to search but can’t work it out - anyone know?

The key bit is you only pay interest on what you still owe. So every month you pay back £10 your interest rate for that month changes.

Eg.

Month 1: £100 owed, £10 repaid = 10% interest
Month 10: £10 owed, £10 repaid = 100% interest
Month 12: £0 owed, £10 repaid = ???% interest

The ~41% APR takes this into account. :+1:

It’s still cost you £20 to borrow £100, so it’s financial semantics. :slightly_smiling_face:

(at least, I think that’s what the answer meant… :slightly_smiling_face:)

I think it’s based on defining an APR precisely so people can compare them. If you don’t have to pay back any of the £120 until the year is up it’s theoretically worth more to you than if you have to pay back £10 a month, so the APR is lower.

The Great Hump Day Quiz! :tada::dromedary_camel:
(21/10/20)

Welcome to this week’s Great Hump Day Quiz. :slightly_smiling_face: All newcomers are most welcome :slightly_smiling_face:, so check out the rules, pop your answers in a post, and I’ll add you to the Scoreboard. :+1:

Where do the questions come from?

I found a mysterious old box of trivial pursuit, with even more trivial pursuits stuffed inside. It is a treasure trove of quiz questions, and all of them really old. :slightly_smiling_face: Perfect fodder for a Hump Day special. :+1:

Piecing together a few bits and bobs, there were three sets, and a couple of the instructions. One is a Genus Edition, dated 2001, and the other the 20th Anniversary one, 2004. There’s also another old style board and questions in there that looks/smells quite a bit older. That’s the box they’re all stuffed in, and that has ©1983 printed on it. No instructions, so not sure if that’s accurate. That one says it’s a Master Game Genus Edition.

So, there you go. It’s a bit random, but it should add to the fun. :slightly_smiling_face:

I would like to point out if the answer to 2 in geography is Australia i will take issue with this (since the continent includes places like New Zealand

But is the alternative answer a country? My head hurts! Also looking at the other answers, i missed an obvious one!

New Zealand’s continent is Oceania :+1:
