Just added to my line up with a VW amarok
I’m not up to date with things, I don’t know of a amarok is it new/old/classic @SW2003
Nice! Is the rest of your line up VWs as well?
We’ve currently got a Golf and Tiguan. Thinking of swapping my Golf for an ID3 or ID4 next year and also swapping partners Tiguan for a T5 or T6 camper.
I’m working from home most of the time and partner is in the office 2-3 days a well so the electric car would be a shard daily and he could use the van if I need to use the car.
Does anyone else drive electric? Anyone else on here got a campervan?

We currently have:
Range Rover sport
Land Rover Defender
Audi RS6
Golf R32
2x Massey Ferguson tractors
John Deere 950D gator
(Just got rid of a Ford Ranger and bought the Amarok.)
Nothing electric, the battery technology just isn’t there for me yet. Until you can get a genuine 400 miles ranges and charge times of 10-15 minutes or less I am not interested.
I’m not talking about 400 miles on a rolling road with no wind resistance, all the gadgets switched off, driving at a nice steady 55 mph on the flat either. I mean 400 miles in traffic, with the air con running, up and down hills, on the motorway doing 85 etc.
There also needs to be a MUCH better network of charge points, we live on a farm in the country and the nearest charge point that I know of is in a supermarket car park 18 miles away from where I live.
Those are all my concerns regarding range as well!
The convenient supermarket just round the corner then @SW2003. You certainly have a nice selection of vehicles. I agree with your thoughts on electric cars and I am not convinced they are the answer. I think other fuels will be developed over the next 8 - 10 years. I know we have to reduce using petrol but think of the revenue the country will lose. Other taxes must need to increase.
Where is the power going to be generated to charge a country full of electric vehicles too? Our system can hardly cope now!
@WillC I totally agree.
At the moment, we have
Audi RS6
VW Touareg TDI V6
We’ve ordered a Peugeot e-Expert for my business to replace a diesel van.
The range and load capacity are massively surplus to the business’ requirements, and it’s going to be parked outside the house at night so will be trickle charging for over 12 hours in every 24.
We’ll keep hold of our RS6 and Touareg for now for fun and comfort, but definitely keep an eye on next gen technologies for the replacements:
Silicon anode lithium cells looks like they could massively improve things for both rapid charge times, and battery lifetimes
, while green hydrogen might see advances that make it cheaper and a really viable fuel option for hydrogen cars.
The more important question though, surely is when this tech will arrive in our sex toys?! I want a 4 hour runtime for my wand, and a 15 second charge time, dammit! ![]()
Completely agree. I tow and electric hybrid cars just aren’t up to the job yet! Love my diesel engine ![]()
Triumph Street Triple RS.

A mini, which I love!
The Amarok is a big VW pickup. I got rid of a Ford Ranger (which is Fords equivalent) and replaced it with the VW.
Possibly partly the reason they have been putting more and more turbines up everywhere they can for years now! This has probably been on the cards for years!
But i was reading that last week that they had to fire up a due to be decommissioned coal fired power station because there wasn’t enough wind. So if we all tuen to electric, how will we power them if the wind isn’t right? I still think we’re years away realistically. Do electric motors have the power to pull an artic?
Thanks for letting me know, I suspect you are self employed then? Good for the old tax.
Sounds like a bit of a beast.
You are right. I think the country should be looking more into tide power. The tide turns twice a day every day and has some great force. I’m not intelligent enough to work how how but I’m sure we have the folk that are. Won’t help the car situation but could sort out so much more. @WillC
Yes i think other countries use tidal power, plus why are solar panels not being fitted as standard on all new homes, and heavily subsidised on existing ones etc?
Over here where a certain somebody keeps saying the US will be all electric cars by 2030 is living in a dream . There is a guy I follow on YouTube that has been a mechanic for over 50 years and he has some great thoughts on the subject . Should anyone want to see what he has to say , his channel is Scotty Kilmer . There is a large communist country that has been buying the mines around the world that produce the metals used to make the batteries for almost everything . They own 85% of the world supply . The pollution that is generated in processing the metal makes greenhouse gasses look good . The same problem over here that the electrical grid could not support a fraction of the electric cars needed to replace internal combustion engined cars . The same people that want to stop relatively green power sources like natural gas power plants and remove hydroelectric dams want everybody to drive electric . Over here the price and range along with charing stations that actually work are just some of the kinks in the idea .
