Muscle weighs more than fat so if one is working out, losing weight but adding muscle, they may weigh the same but look different as their body will take on a different shape when losing fat and gaining muscle.
It’s also possible to gain some weight if adding enough muscle and still looking different or better if one wants to use that term.
Yes, the scale is one thing to use and monitor but so are other things, like gaining muscle, toning up.
Weight alone, in and of itself, isn’t always the best way to measure improvements in our bodies as some gain weight with more muscle but are still healthier for having made changes.
As always, it depends upon a person’s goals when they begin making changes.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you said this “I think it could be more to do with working out, building muscle and so changing shape.”
It’s an interesting thing, wieght loss. We’re taught to think of pounds but the other things like added muscle, less fat and inches lost to me are the key.
I lost 50 pounds over COVID and I noticed that the inches off things ;like chest, thighs and belly that made it all worth while. And was the treason I could preen a bit in the mirror.
If others see the difference, very cool, but at the end of the day, how do you feel? And if you feel good, then, mission accomplished.
Yes i feel good the only problem i have now is although i have dropped two sizes the clothes i bought to replace the ones i threw out are starting to hang off me, like jeans are really loose on me and i hate loose jeans. Also the worst thing is that some of my lingerie is now too big for me, good excuse to buy some more.
Should never lose weight too quickly, it has taken me nearly two years to lose my weight, through eating sensibly and exercise that way the body gets used to eating smaller meals and gives the body chance to tone up. Also losing weight gradually means you are less likely to put it back on.
She’s using weight loss injections and she’s been on them for about 3 months, started losing weight about 6 weeks ago she’s changed her diet so isn’t eating as much which as it the jabs are meant to do
Just be careful as once you stop the injections its likely to put on weight again. @Wood-Nymph is right in saying slowly losing the weight is the best way. A strong will is also required . @Bustywife01
She has changed her diet and isn’t eating nearly as much as she was before she started, she does have strong will power, so hopefully the weight will stay off
I am on the injections for the diabetes (i would not have qualified for it if it wasnt for that as my bmi was lower than would qualify) and it is a very low dose. They have left it as it is as they dont want me to lose much more and i think they will keep me on it because of the other benefits such as lowering blood pressure and cholesterol.
It is that magic time of year where we get a couple sunny and warm days and then multiple rain days . My wife wanted another bush for the front yard and there was only one place it would fit . So I have been re edging the front lawn . It involves removing some sod , then cutting the new edge and moving the border edging . Then the real fun begins , digging up the red cinders and underlayment fabric , removing weeds and grass . Anyway on days it is not pouring I have been working right along . I made good headway in three out of the last seven days . Plus have been getting the old body to do a bit of physical work , hurts so good . Yesterday at the grocery store I was chatting up the lady in front of me at checkout . She was probably 15 to 20 years my senior and her hair was done , wearing a snappy sharp looking outfit and nice jewelry . I complimented her and asked her if she remembered back when people dressed nice for shopping or an airline flight ? We discussed how people have slid down to going out in sleepwear and dirty sweats . She seemed to appreciate the compliment and cheered her up some . BTW , she was the last person of many I made smile or laugh at the store . Be happy and nice !
Coincidentally we’re having similar weather here in England. Had an uncomfortably hot heatwave followed by much cooler showery weather this last 2 weeks. I know the gardens need it but could do without all the rain! Planted some sunflowers i grew from seed, and am currently bringing on some lupins i grew from seed before I decide where to plant them!
@WillC , yes my vegetable garden started well and then too many clouds and rain , the only two things really growing well are my tomatoes and my potatoes . I also need a break in the rain , I bought a drip irrigation I wish to install for the upcoming hot and dry weather . I could use several hired hands to get everything done around my yard and garden . But just an elderly broke down old man .
I prefer to do what I am capable of myself, as it’s very satisfying to see the results of my own hard work. It irritates me to see on local Facebook pages fit young people asking people to mow their lawns cos they can’t be bothered and basically saying we don’t want to pay much for the job!
Seeing YouTube footage from last night of Rush’s first live gig in over 10 years since the death of legendary percussionist and lyricist Neil Peart. The new female drummer killed it. It really brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face.
