A Warning - Golden Root Capsules

Hi there everyone,

Something quite worrying has come up, I bought a box of golden root recently (noticing lovehoney doesn't sell them anymore - good choice?) Anyway, my girlfriend is starting a career in medical research, and was curious about the contents of golden root... she emailed some of the UK distributors (Namely "Ultimate Promotions Limited" who seem to be big on this stuff), and got either stonewalled or abusive phonecalls from every company contacted. She was concerned about what I might have taken so contacted the MHRA Directly, here is the response:

Good afternoon *******
My name is *******, I am an Invetigating Officer for the MHRA, I am based at our York Office.
Your emails have been forwarded to myself as I currently have an ongoing investigation into the product Goldenroot.

Goldenroot is neither licensed nor registered as a Traditional Chinese Medicine, nor is it likley to be so.
It is an Exempt Herbal Remedy under Section 12(2) Medicines Act 1968, and should remain so until April 2011.

This exemption is based on the product being herbal, however we have now had cases of Goldenroot containing the active ingredient Sildenafil, which would obviously void its exemption.

What I have been able to do is identify retail suppliers, but wholesalers, buying the finished product from outside the UK are proving more elusive.

I have not heard of the distributors Ultimate Promotions Limited, but I shall contact them and identify their supplier.
I will also obtain a sample from them for analysis.

I hope this meets with your approval and I shall keep you updated.

Should you wish to discuss this matter further, my mobile number is *************.

Regards,

For those of you without medical knowledge, Sildenafil is the active ingredient in viagra. I remember this being on sale on lovehoney some time ago (I think I bought mine here, forget now...) so I just thought I should make you all aware.

Right, now I'll go and post an introduction over in the introductions forum :D

yeah , but what is your concern with the product ,have you or someone you know had any problems using the product ?

just want to know as i have some

I remember a LH member of staff mentioning they've stopped selling these gue to some legal reason.

I'm sure someone will clarify it for you...they are usually very helpful and prompt!

Sildenafil, in Viagra, is licensed as a medical drug to be prescribed under a doctor's supervision. People for whom it is prescribed are advised about dosage size, side effects, how to take it, and what to do in case of an adverse reaction. The person's medical history is taken into account when prescribing, because there are some medical conditions which increase the risks of potentially fatal reactions.

On the other hand, the same drug, having been found in some cases sold as Goldenroot, was available to people who are unaware of how their medical histories may adversely affect their health in combination with this drug, who are taking it in unmonitored doses, who are unaware how much they are taking because the dosage is unstated on the packaging, who are unaware of how to take it, who are unaware of possible side effects, adverse reactions and what to do if they occur, and who are taking it unsupervised by any medical professional.

That is what I imagine is the concern with the product. Of course, what you do with that information is up to you. :)

Oh, and C&K, that was a brilliantly informative post, thank you very much for sharing it! :)

Wow I never realised this, hubby was worried when he tried this several months ago as it could interfear with his drug tests via the army, but none the less a great post packed with loads of information

Thats kind of a shame as it is the only one we have found that acculty works.

My boyfriend was addicted to viagra for a number of years and usually needs some help in the bedroom now he has stopped being reliant on it and I found this was brill.

Well, since the same drug which is in Viagra was also probably in the Goldenroot you had, your boyfriend is still reliant on Viagra.
