Male down below shaving

Hi all,

I'm keen to shave down below but would like advice on best method to use. Do I razor shave? Buy a trimmer style shaver?

I've razor shaved my balls before and that worked okay.

Not feeling waxing!

Any ideas please.

Thanks

Personally, I trim with scissors every so often, and occasionally use a razor to shave everything.

It basically depends on what you want - there's no "right way" - aside from maybe not using a hedge trimmer ![](upload://5BDs2y1gm13l2R58ovmAMxyNM3f.gif)

My oh uses a normal wet shave razor and Nivea sensitive shaving gel. A good soak in a nice warm bath first makes the hair softer and easier to remove x

I use a trimmer to get it short and then make it smooth by using a razor.

If you're going to use a razor make sure it's a fairly new blade, nothing worse than it being blunt. Also plenty of shaving gel as this acts as a cushion between your skin and razor and can help stop the stubble from drying out when it grows back. They say you should soak in warm water for at least 15 minutes before any sort of shaving as it opens up your pores and softens the hairs.

+1 Terri to the wet shave razor and and Nivea sensitive gel + Nivea post shave Balm afterwards ![](upload://lJMrTcqgi5lI1FOpb07OYOcv2YF.gif)

I trim all round with electric trimmer on number1 and then shave around base of penis and balls with Mach3. Make sure you stretch the skin though so you get a smooth shave. Wife won't have it any other way now.

some advice ive read if you going to have a soak in the bath or shower first is not to have a too hot.
Some beauty 'experts' warn that of its so warm your upper layers of skin swell/go puffy so it's harder to get as close a shave.

Like others here, I use a trimmer to get the main bush area neat and short, then when I'm in the shower I use shaving cream/foam and a razor to shave the shaft and balls.

Seems to work, nice smooth finish with soft skin afterwards.

My husband keeps his short/almost off with an electric razor and shaves his balls smooth with a mach 3 ![](upload://lJMrTcqgi5lI1FOpb07OYOcv2YF.gif)

Thanks all... Made a successful start this evening but need to invest in a trimmer I think.

Great Idea to use after shave balm too!

So far... Big thumbs up to smooth balls 👍🏼

An electric trimmer is absolutely essential :) It depends on your preference though, because I found shaved balls too much effort and maintenance, so now I just use my trimmer on the shortest setting. It's close enough visual-wise and keeps things feeling clean for both me and my partner. You don't get that fresh 'smooth' feeling, but you also don't have to deal with the cons that come from razor shaving. I'm sure after a while you'll figure out a routine that's ideal for you.

I trim mine using electric an electric trimmer then tend to get in the bath and after soaking for a while use a ladies razor to make the balls and shaft smooth.

I tried using a men's razor but found I got a smoother and more comfortable finish with a ladies razor

I use a philips nose hair trimmer (series 3000) for my balls. Its got very fine teeth, so less chance of catching and nipping a bit (which is damned painfull). Trim everywhere else, as my SO doesn't like it too short.

A good quality razor like a Hydro 5(Never use disposable) and good sensitive gel, like King Of Shaves(Not foam, the gel lets you see what you are doing and lets the razor glide smoothly.A good soak in the bath helps,i tend to shave last, lying down and letting enough water out of the bath so that balls and pubic are are above the waterline.I find lying down lets you manipulate the areas you`re shaving more easily.I shave everything smooth from the waist down with no problems at all.

Thanks all! I will invest in a trimmer and a decent razor.

Anyone recommend a good moisturiser to prevent itchiness?

Thanks

(Glad there's so many shavers and tips to help me!)

Baby oil rubbed in immediately after shaving works well. It seems to prevent itchiness and shaving rash xx

Lots of posts about this on here.

Golden rules for me:-

1) Think investing in a trimmer is a good idea, personal favourite after a bit of trial and error is a Phillips Bodygroom, although a £5 aldi one will do the job. I would personally steer clear of the ones you get in the Gillette packs as I nicked myself with one of those.

2) Don't shave up top. Just too itchy in my experience. Thats where the bodygroom comes in.

3) Sharp razor, I keep a Gillette sensor set just for the job. Razor head not too large. Usually shave in the shower. Mrs objects to a line of hairs in the bath.

4) I prefer foam to gel. If you are prone to itching I think I read somewhere that hair conditioner as a soap is the favoured approach by porn stars.

5) Keep on top of it. Once a week at least. When the hair gets to about 1cm long gets very itchy as the ends aren't tapered as they would be naturally. My regime is saturday am, so balls are nice and smooth for any weekend shenanagins.

6) A quick splash of baby oil after keeps everything nice and soft.

I am guessing like most of us, you will start off a bit tentative, and then think wtf, and go smooth on the balls and really short elsewhere as the norm. Personally a #1 up top with the aid of the bodygroomer, and aside from a couple of embarassing moments at the Docs, have never looked back.

A regular topic so its always good to check the threads for previous posts.

I use a depilator around base on top simply because it lasts longer and they grow back softer.

Mack 3 on sack, never nicked myself yet. I don't put any creams lotions on, seems to be ok without.

It`s interesting to hear people`s differing opinions, for instance i never use foam on my face as it leaves me sore and razor burnt, despite using quality razors,so i wouldn`t dare use foam down below! Also,i shave everything from the waist down and have never experienced itching, despite having qiute sensitive skin.So really you need to try everything and see what suits you.I will add, that once you`ve started,it is best to keep on top of it with a weekly shave!
