Need a better lube, any suggestions?

The type of lube myself and hubby are using was mentioned in another thread and it got me thinking what we're using probably isn't the best. I presumed all water-based lubes were basically the same so we've been using Tesco's own brand. It needs to be reapplied often which is a real nuisance so my question is, are there longer lasting water-based ones out there? Also I'm very sensitive down there so would have to be one known not to irritate. Many thanks.

I am really sensitive down there and have found that a lot of brands that were marketed as sensitive friendly really weren't. I've found Sliquids to be brilliant though. I've used a few different ones but I prefer the Oceanics for vaginal and the Organics natural gel for anal. The flavoured ones tend to be more unusual flavours and rather tasty. My current favourite for solo play and when I'm having a particularly dry or sensitive day is the Satin natural intimate moisturiser.

I would second the sliquid brand but I have also not had any problem with Lovehoney's own brand silk lube and it last a long time on me.

Irritation in lubes is often due to glycerin, parabens or propylene glycol so I would avoid anything containing those. There are a couple of brands that balance their lubes pH levels for vaginas and use organic and minimal ingredients to avoid any irritation too. These are not as cheap as a supermarket brand would be but they are better for your body :)

Hey Sarah 77

Water-based lube does tend to need reapplying more often than other lubes, simply because it evaporates and is absorbed by the skin more easily than other types, like silicone, for example.

If the only issue is that the lube dries up, a handy trick is to keep a glass of water next to the bed. Dip your fingers in and sprinklye a few drops over the area to reawaken the lube, rather than re-applying :)

If you're thinking about trying a different lube, I highly recommend Sliquid lubes. They're great for sensitive skin and are all female-friendly.

Or, try a silicone lube like Indulge. Its reaaally long lasting and silicone is hypoallergenic, meaning its great for sensitive bodies.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'm not even sure what the Tesco lube's got in it as I haven't checked but up until reading the above, I've been under the impression it doesn't irritate me. However I do get irritated after sex despite using plenty of lube? Hmm that could well be the reason without me realising 🤔 We'd prefer to stick with water-based lubes as we have mainly silicone toys, I'll have a gander at some of those suggestions.

Went through countless types of lube before coming here and almost always still felt stinging/soreness after sex. Been using this: https://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=35809 For a month now and it is great, haven’t felt uncomfortable once, well worth the money.

This is our go to Lube, it's the longest lasting water based lube we have used so far. https://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=38383

(Mrs.E) Brilliant! Thank you all, will no doubt be doing some shopping today lol. It's interesting about being sore after sex, I thought it was just me being sensitive (doesn't help having scar tissue from the episotomy I had many years ago). So really it could well be the bloody lube we're using! 😳

A sprinkle of water can help too as it's the water evaporation that makes it loose it's slip? On the outside at least.

I chose the LH Discover lube in the end. It appears to be free of all the nasty things and the reviews are great saying it's thick and long lasting. At first I wasn't sure it was the right one to buy as it says in the description it's for anal (me thinking it can ONLY be used for that) but lots of people said it's perfect for all play, happy days 😀

Let us know how you get on with this one as been eyeing it up especially with us feeling sensitivity

I will most definitely be trying it out this weekend so I'll let you know how I get on. Been using that Tesco one for years so I'm sure I'll be able to tell the difference. The main thing I'm interested in is if I feel less irritated afterwards....watch this space

Yep, "fisting lube" is great for all sorts of use and does not dry out like others, just people see the name and rule it out without thought, forget the name? https://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=32336

Just don't lick it/body parts unless you want your tongue slightly numb!

Before lovehoney we used durex lube but made the switch to tescos as it was cheaper. My advice to you Mr&Mrs.Eis to chuck it straight in the bin. We thought it was OK but changing to sliquid was an utter godsend. There was irritation that me and my husband didn't really even notice we had! It lasted much longer too. We recently switched to Lovehoney own brand Enjoy. It's almost as good as sliquid but is more budget friendly. Yes you'll need to reapply but it feels so much nicer than Tescos stuff.

Something I hadn't considered, I love the Durex Play Cherry but my wife has said a few times after that she felt itchy and so maybe it could be the lube?

Shame tastes great on her!

Yes it is most likely to be the lube that is making her sore. I tried the cherry and the strawberry and both made me seriously uncomfortable, the strawberry actually made me feel like I'd put deep heat on down there and left me running to the shower yelling burny burny burn! Just a bit of a passion killer. I used the rest of the cherry only when giving my OH at the time a blowjob and only when we were not going to have sex after. The strawberry went in the bin very quickly. I even tried the aloe vera one that they market for sensitive use, that also went in the bin not long after as that also made me very sore after sex. I tried a few others before finding Sliquids and despite it having a slightly higher price tag, the knowledge that I will not be getting sore in anyway from it is more than worth it.

Sliquids also have some flavoured ones which are more unusual flavours and to me they taste less artificial than others too.

Our favourite lube for any application is the ID Glide, it re wets with spit or water, so last longer, tastes not unpleasant as well, and doesn’t sting me as I am very sensitive.
