I still think the Lovehoney beaded glass dildo is a great start. It is not too big but also has the large end for when hes ready to push the envelope a bit more. The bumps really help to relax those muscles back there with some thrusting, and they provide a great deal of stimulation across the prostate as well.
Defiantely get a good butt plug or three haha. Now what follows is really intended for if he is up for some really intense fun. I really like the Doc Johnson B-7 as a decent beginner/intermediate plug, it will take some working up to before he can fit the first bump comfortably but once there it is a great toy for transitioning to larger girths from the 4inch range up to the 6 inch, its also a fairly deep plug for a beginner and can start to get him going that direction too.
