Shibari

I am really interested in Shibari. I would like to be able to have the confidence to suggest Shibari to my husband but as we rarely have any sex its seems pointless.

What I was thinking, was to just go ahead and buy some decent, good quality rope and asking him to use it on me, surprise him. I know he is good at knots as well. But the thing is, I have no idea where to buy it from.

Any ideas?

Are any of you lovehoney members into Shibari? I have seen such beautiful photos on fetlife and I really want to try it.

I don't know much about Shibari but agree it does look beautiful.

Maybe try one of the cheaper ropes off Lovehoney (they seem to have good reviews) and see if your hubby is interested before spending lots of cash on an expensive one

Fair point Kasumi. Meant to say I have checked lovehoney but it seems a little expensive for rope and I was hoping for more choice and the rope doesnt seem to be long enough. I would want it around my body not just my legs or hands.

Ah thanks for that Kasumi, perhaps start off with just hand or ankle ties first .. just to get the feel of it, i might not like it after all. Also, how do i explain the friction burns to my colleagues at work if it goes wrong? hehe

What you need is a salty sea dog, someone who can weave soft supple cords into intricate but entwining bonds around you. X

Amazon, £3.39 for 15m:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cotton-Rope-9mm-X-15m/dp/B000UYTSYU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345323793&sr=8-1

i have sevral reals of this and its amazing. it is really soft and being cotton it means you could even die it if you wanted some fun colours. 15 meters is plenty and as this rope is realy cheep it doesnt matter if you dont get into shibari as apparently it makes a great washing line skipping rope etc.

as for introducing your hubby to shibari, why not show him some of the picturs and tell him how you think they look realy pritty and mabey have a joke saying how he's good at ropes and how it might be fun to have a go.

if your too shy to show im them on their own perhaps show him some more vanila things sutch as some nice lingerie or some pin up style pics you like the look of for example (shibari is mutch cheeper and fun than lingerie btw)

as for ideas for ties check out "two knotty boys" either on their websight or on yourtube. they do some great tutorials. or for a fully body tie this (http://theunfortunatehole.tumblr.com/post/10279472010) is a great one to start off with :)

Haha, do you have anyone in mind?

Basically as long as you are using specific bondage/shibari rope and not some left over boat rope sitting in your cupboard then you should be fine.

but great rope isnt always listed as shibari rope...

i guess it depends how serious you are but i'd say that you want to go for something with cotten fibers as it reduces rope burn, feels amazing and is easy to work with.

when it comes to things like suspention though i wouldnt just go for any old rope... but you can think about that later.

And their first book Two Knotty Boys showing you the ropes are fabulous too start with.

Cotton rope is best to start with or I found it was :)

Thanks for all the comments.. i really hope to try it soon!!

Shibari is all about how you do it, not simply pretty rope patterns ;-) The rope is an extension of your hands and a tool of communication. Here's an example of how I tie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRw6d0lBXj4

Two Knotty Boys is not shibari. It is their own unique style of tying and very different.. I think of it more as erotic macrame. If that's what you like, go for it. If you prefer my style, try www.ShibariClasses.com

Have taken a good look at it, and I'm blown away by it. Loved the comment on the Salty sea dog! :)

I bought the hemp rope from LH as my first purchase from the site, i'm just getting into Shibari myself after taking some bondage photos for a friend.....two knotty boys is a good place to start they also have a youtube channel as well. You could also try, The twisted monk and crash Restraint they also have youtube channels i find it easier to pick it up watching how it's done rather than looking at still images. Hope this is a help even if it's a bit late :)

I love this too! 10m is plenty to do a simple chest harness or body harness and you can tie them together to make it longer if needed. My hubby sometimes puts me in this and I wear my clothes over the top for the day. We have the Two Knotty Boys first book as a starter.
I agree that it's about the tying and being tied not just how pretty it looks so you need to start simple anyway. Good luck x

Other names you might be able to google

Chanta Rose

Twisted Monk

Midori

Chanta Rose is a superb Rope Top and her book

Bondage for Sex a great place to start with erotic bondage

You do not need "special" rope to do enjoyable bondage and a synthetic rope will be easier to wash and dry ![](upload://h7LJ67OOrR57VDYrj5ZEwwHAfLG.gif)

There are some great links here...
Not something I've tried yet but on the "to do" list. I find the rope work really artistic and often find myself fascinated by the patterns (slight OCD tendencies will do that to you!) I'm also attracted by the fact tying the knots is done with a lot of care and attention. Looooove the idea mentioned above about wearing beneath clothes ...mmmmmmm!
